anyone know what releases Michael Rose had made after leaving Black Uhuru. Between '85-'88. I heard a few that Jammy's recorded. The riddims employed by jammy's seemed to be from Horace Andy's- Haul & Jack Up 1987 album, which he also produced. So Is there other producers that may have recorded Michael Rose between that 85-88 time frame. I know 'round this era, music really started getting digital. Seemed as if real human instruments, were no longer being used, only on stage show performances.

Immediately after leaving Uhuru, Rose released self-produced tunes on his own label, "Grammy Rose".

These included "Bogus Badge", and "Hurry Home Baby" amongst others. I still have a "Bogus Badge" bumper sticker that was used as a promotional tool (now I just need a car to put it on).

Yes, around that time...they were released post-Uhuru, but before the band reformed with Jr Reid as the singer.

"Digital?". People seem to think that "analogue" versus "digital" are two separate worlds that don't overlap. They are not. Rose used Chris Meredith to play bass, Squiddly Cole on drums (augmented by digital effects, like "claps"), and what sound like Roland digital keyboards (as opposed to analogue). So what would you call that? "Hybrid"?

Bogus Badge was released by Germain too. It was produced by the great Tyrone Downie. On the very pleasant Hurry Home Baby, I think it was Tyrone who also did the production but I'm less sure.

I didn't know Michael Rose did some work just after leaving Black Uhuru. I thought that he went back into business in the late '80s when he secured a deal with RCA ('Proud', 1990).

As for the digital/analogue debate, I guess it is common knowledge that digital refers to post-1985 synthesizer/drum machine-driven reggae. Of course, synthesizers and drum machines were used before in reggae, but they were far from being prevalent and were mostly analogue. By the way, even early digital reggae wasn't 100% digital. For instance, Steely's synth of choice for basslines in the Jammy's/Music Works days was the Yamaha CS-01, which is an analogue synthesizer - not to mention the recording equipment that was for the most part analogue in the mid-to-late '80s.

Yes, exactly my point - people tend to think that "digital" is an all or none situation, and everything went from "manually played" to "completely programmed". It's not that binary. For example, the riddims Steelie and Clevie laid were for the most start still manually played, and not programmed, even though they were played on keyboards and drum machines.

But I have seen the term used to mean all sorts of things since that time.
