Can anyone tell me what the deal is with this album?
It doesn't really sound like Yabby You had anything to do with it.....
discogs says it's mixed by Collin (Bulby) York, the mixing style sounds kinda like Soljie Hamilton, kinda sparse and chilled
Can't find anything on web about it, just pages and pages of sites where I can download it illegally... bit pointless sinc eI just bought it

Yes congo bunny thats a weird one...doesn't sound anything like classic 70s yabby you but the man also produced music during the 80s & 90s inna digital style which is very different as well.
Yabby is credited here as producer with roy francis (owner of mixing lab studio) credited as executive producer so go figure it out...in reggae producer not always mean musical production, it could be just financing the session or buying already recorded riddims from other producer/studio & revoicing or re-mixing them - anyway if you listen carefully you can hear that track A3 is a steppers cut to 'king pharaohs plague', track B2 is a version to 'stop your quarelling' (with some vocals from yabby) & track A5 have yabby chanting which altogether make me think that he did have some musical input in this case. I imagine he did arrange the session (which was probably recorded & mixed on the fly), gathered the musicians & gave some musical direction.
Never heard vocal cuts to any of the tunes here although you can hear some vocal snippets here & there - i wonder if there are vocals to some of these dubs ?
This album always made me wonder as well...glad if anyone could add some more info but guess we'll just never know for sure

Check out the link. Rob kuijpers who wrote the liner notes, was a good friend of mine at the time. One day he called (about 20 years ago), that yabby you was coming over to the netherlands with some friends and a trunk full of records.. If i wanted to join visiting record shops and sell records... Hey of course!
Shocking to see that he hardly did not sell any (in fact, i was one of his bigger customers buying a box of 7" and maybe 5 albums).... Incredible, this guy is known all over the world, but still life must have been a struggle for the man. But hey much respect....
At the end of they, i got him a bag of collieweed to overcome the disappointment.
So i think rob's liner notes are close to reality.

It's the country, not related to his music itself in his first place. I think around the same time he would have sold pretty well in for example London.

Thanks guys, nice to know a bit more about it, you never know when a reggae album is cashing in on someone’s name, so it was worth asking for some more info.
