When I was sick this summer a friend bought me a present. She knew I like reggae, but Bob Marley was the only artist she knew. So she bought me a CD called Bob Marley Lion of Lion White Collection. I thought it's gonna be one of those Marley hits compilation, but it turned out to be a compilation of Lee Perry productions from 1969 or 1970, I don't know, because there are no information on this double CD. I noticed this CD around supermarkets a lot. It's great to see, that The Wailers rockstedy material is around, eventhough the CD gives no information about this. Not to mention, that the name Wailers or Bunny Wailer is not used... But anyways...

Those CDs are dime a dozen and usually contain the same 20 tracks over and over again. Long story short, about 30 or 40 early Wailers songs are owned by a dubious publishing company (San Juan), which means hundreds of those "supermarket" CDs you see everywhere. Glad you like it, but there are much better sources for that early Wailers material.

How do you mean better? I was searching for that material a long time, but the prices were soo high, I just couldn't decide to buy it. And than this came... The only problem is the misleading name of the artist and that there is no info at all of songs and their recording dates... But for this price and this availability, I think this is a good way to spread rocksteady around...

I think he is talking about sound quality. Usually those cheap cd's don't have the best sound quality.

I'm a big fan of reggae, but I don't know rocksteady very well... I know some Gaylads, some John Holt, most of Maytals and some Wailers material... But out of all these tunes is one tune, that actually moved me... Soul Shakedown Party of Wailers. And what is so special about it? I noticed that in most songs with simmilar instrumental version, the bass drum kicks on 2 and 4, but on this perticular tune the emphasys is on the third. It's just so weird (in a good way, of course), it's some kind of rocksteady with reggae drumming!

no idea about the drumming, but yeah soul shakedown party is great. and it was produced by leslie kong. there's a great trojan box that has a leslie kong disc and three lee perry discs all by the wailers. i'm sure you'll love it

its great. has good liner notes, the four albums reproduced in sleeves and the money probably goes to a better source than those cheapy londis compilations
