The new film 'Bob Marley: Making of a Legend' will have a special screening at The Drum in Birmingham on Friday 18th May as part of a 3day program of Reggae themed films and documentaries as part of the Best of The Jamaican Reggae Film Festival's tour.
The Bob Marley film is much less known than the new Kevin MacDonald 'Marley' film which was recently released, this is obviously down to Big budget Vs small budget but Esthers film is of great historical importance to all Bob Marley fans and gives the first ever real glimpse of Bob away from the cameras of the press. Most of you will have seen the old black+white footage of Bob and Esther and the Wailers used as short clips in numerous Bob Marley films but this time the footage gets released in it's entirety in this 90min film along with present day interviews with Bobs close friends and Esther travels back to Jamaica to do this.
get to see what Bob was like with his friends, this film was a home video shot by Esther, not a tv camera and not by a journalist for some TV show which is why you get to see the real Bob up close and personal. Well worth checking out of your near Birmingham next weekend....Friday 18th 10pm (£4 entry) google for more info.
Amongst the other films showing next weekend will be the UK premier of "Red,Amber, Green" a short film about some ghetto youths who work selling items at the traffic lights in Kingston, by a young Jamaican film maker Christopher Byfield.
Also a rare screening of the 1992 film "We The Raggamuffin" by Julian Henriques which feature members of the Saxon crew, featuring Mikey General. On Sunday the new film "Bad Friday" about the historic Coral Gardens incident in 1960's Jamaica where the police turned on the Rasta's of the time and rounded them up and carted them off to jail...
