if you want to see the pictures of channel one studio that i took in july in kingston, you can go to the reggae website: liveanddirect.fr, to the photo section..
i am a contributor for this site and a tour guide specialised in the kingston musical tour..
last week i met the HOOKIM brothers that told me they will agree if somebody was rebuilding the place and used it as a way of development for the community of maxfield avenue, but they don t really believe in it..
nowadays we are starting to see the tourists downtown, they go to tuff gong and trenchtown, why not also to channel one? already the reggae fans come everyday to take a picture of the sign at maxfield avenue..
i am prospecting inside and outside of the island to see if people would like to be involved in a human chain to rehabilitate channel one and support a project like a museum and studio inside that tourists could visit the same way they visit culture yard in trenchtown.. i am open to all ideas, comments, contributions of any kind..right now the ghetto youth are cleaning the place and we are thinking about putting up a studio in it, create an association and start to rebuild it..the whole area could be painted with murals like in trenchtown, this could have tremendous benefit for the entire community and solve some of the problems created by the poverty in this area, it is a fact that when a project like this is run in a ghetto environment all the community is always very protective with the visitors, for example in rio de janeiro..my mail is: gingerheart24@gmail.com, contact me for everything, we want to make this happen man!!!

Thanks for the putting up the pictures. Restoring Channel One into a studio would be a great project. Hopefully it would inspire local youths to start taking up instruments and build up a roots scene like we hear about in the old stories of Idlers Rest. It sounds like a nice place for aspiring musicians to gather, practice, and work together.

thank you guys,i don t have any doubt it will work, cause the energy is too strong around this high symbol!!
instead of looking at criminality as a problem, it is necessary to look at this project as the solution to it..a lot of jamaicans that used to live there 20 years or 10 years ago tell me i am crazy, but they are not living there today anymore, i am hearing many different opinions from all sides, particularly one from a boy that grew up in denham town and went to some good schools, he is telling me that the ghetto youth will behave themselves, and me i see these young so HUNGRY for a project like that, they really know what it can bring to them, they are willing to work for free to fix the place..
i am asking for any help to advertise the project, any suggestions, even some graffiti artists abroad that could come collaborate and paint the first jamaican graffitis around in the streets, cause graffiti is not a tradition in jamaica..any artist, any development organisation, anybody that from far or close wants to be involved, do not hesitate!!!
in these days where money is ruling the world, such an experiment is definitely fighting the babylon system, full of humanity!!!thank you in advance!!

great project misspi!sounds like you need not only volunteers but money for materials etc why not create a fund or account such as a paypal account where RA members could donate money?Im sure a lot of users of this forum would donate to such a worthwhile project.
I dont know how much a plane ticket to JA costs but maybe members could be sponsored by friends ,family, work collegues etc to raise money to buy a ticket.Just a couple of suggestions, might work...?

there is a jamaican woman from an indian origin in my village that is studying in development with a canadian university, she has already created an association in my village where she is helping the country youth with a cultural center project..
she will be back from canada in november and want to present the channel one project in her studies , she will help me to create an association or foundation to take care of the administrative part..
right now we the ghetto youth are cleaning the studio, next week i will go to see how they are progressing..
djull, the boss of the site, just put the pictures of jojo and ernest hookim i took last week , it is the same link, and the picture of the boiler the hookim brothers were using in the vynil room, on the other side of maxfield avenue, that place is today a garage..
i don t know where you are living, so i cannot tell you how much the plane fare is costing, but if there are some grffiti artists or mural artists that want to come to channel one to do some painting on walls, we will find a way to give them a free accomodation and the painting..meanwhile anytime people come there to do volunteer work, jamaicans or foreigners, a kitchen and a cooker have to be there for people to get meals, that is what a fundation has to take care of..

the plan is just in the making, several persons are going to decide what could be a project.. the building has several rooms, it is not only the studio where the original room used to be, there is also an upstairs et several rooms at the back..
we would like first to put back a little studio in a room that is in a good state, then from that first step restaure other rooms and put a museum there with pictures, records, instruments that used to be there..when ntourists come they will visit the studio and the museum, that is the way it happens at tuff gong..

then the streets around could be painted with murals..this project could be progressively done,if the room is clean we are going to try to start a little studio..
