Some Pablo Moses maybe , alot of music associated with Geoffrey Chung is pretty sophisticated but still seems to keep it heavy. I think he was involved in I Jah Man stuff as well.

When I read the title I was also going to say Ijahman's first album. Another album I really think is sophisticated is Rico's Man From Wareika. Wonderful rich arrangements with profound jazz inspiration.

how are we defining "sophisticated" ? complex timing and key changes? or just big arrangements?

i'm gonna say the drums on mighty diamonds "right time". doesnt get more sophisticated than that.
