Read this book twice and it's in my opinion one of the best books about reggae, also because it covers the scene both in Jamaica and the UK.

One thing bothers me about the book though: why doesn't he mention UB40? I must confess I dislike their later work, but think that their first albums are great.

I think it's a bit, well snobish (maybe not the correct word) not to mention them.

What does the forum think?

I consider UB40 to be a pop band not a reggae band

so how do you consider ASWAD(their first works were terrible but after...)

Aswad-surely you've go that the wrong way round- Ladbroke Grove's finest first few albums excellent culminating in the live rubadub at Meanwhile Gardens!!! then went to the darkside of pop!
UB40 dull dull dull flat singing and tunes and an underachieving toaster.

I've got one of those sisaket, the damn thing only browns one side of me bread!

Azwad was tough UK roots when they started and wound up pop reggae too.

I'd rather misty in roots or steel pulse any day
