I have two vinyl albums on the **Jamaican Recordings** label:

Sly and Robbie Meet Bunny Lee at Dub Station

and

Dubbing At Harry J's

The volume on these records is very, *very* quiet. I have to turn up the volume knob much higher than I usually do to obtain a comparable listening level with other albums.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a recurring problem with their records, or just a fluke? How do Jamaican Recordings CD's sound?

Ive got Leroy Smart in Dub, Steppin up Dubwise and Don Carlos in Dub on Cd.

I have the same problem, have to turn them up a lot higher to get a comparable volume to some of my other stuff.

I dont think this is limited to that label, it seems to be a problem with a lot of stuff thats getting re-issued.

Can only assume the record labels are re-mastering them from less ideal source or they just don`t want to invest the money to attain a good quality release.

Still I suppose its better to have em like this than not at all.

I have the Horace Andy Dub Box Rare Dubs 1973-1976 but i don't know this problem at all?. Lucky me.

the ones i have on that label are all ok, theres a thread over on B+F about JA recordings right now...

today mastering can acheive much louder music than the old days. and as far as JA mastering, im sure they didnt have all the latest equipment to properly limit the songs to be at their loudest volume possible.
