we come the long way
through the deserts where no water flows
we come through the valleys where the sweet herbs grow
so don't cha
we been through the streets and highways where kungfu don't go
so don't break my heart now

Did you ever hear the theory that this song was actually about Byles' friendship with Lee Perry?
Maybe it should be filed alongside the thing about 'Night Nurse' really being about Gregory Isaacs' addiction to cough syrup, but still...

easily in my top 10 of all time - also appears in dub form on the Upsetters "revolution dub" as 'dr on the go"..

I think that it was Byles who said "we know where we're going"...

The real dub version of "The Long Way", "All The Way" by The Upsetters is much better than "Doctor On The Go". I mean, I'm all for Lee Perry being experimental, but those Sid James samples on "Doctor On The Go" are unbearable!

Oh wait, it's not Sid James. But those samples from that TV show ruin that song for me!

true the dub is better on the original 7" (dip, orchid or black art reissue) - but I still like "doctor on the go" - probably because I remember watching the original TV series (doctor in the house) many moons ago when living in the UK....
