this was covered on another board, but i thought there certainly would be enough Jazzbo fans here that would want to know:

to distill it down;

very recently, Jazzbo was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and has been bedridden ever since. initially, he refused any outside help other than the assistance of his long time girlfriend, Sue. however, he is in a situation now where he really has little choice.

donations to his fund will go towards food and medical needs to keep him as comfortable as possible.

if Paypal is an easier or more familiar way to pay, there are directions on the page on how to do that (gofundme.com is not able to process Paypal payments). the Paypal payments go through a different person.

for anyone wondering about the legitimacy of the fund, the bad news has unfortunately been confirmed in another forum by a veteran forum member that knows Jazzbo and his girlfriend.

if you feel like it, please pass this information on to wherever you might think it could do some good.

edit: the goal is to raise about $1000 USD - pretty modest, i would think they are about halfway there.

I would certainly like to help him, but how do I know this donation thing is legit? I was about to send some money and then I thought no, I need some kind of proof that this money is really Geting to him. Does anyone know what hospital he is in? Does anyone have any inside knowledge that can help proove this is legit. I know this may sound bad, but I would really like to help him, not help someone who is cashing in on his illness. Not that I'm saying this is a scam, I just wonder how we can be sure we are really helpping our musical hero

i know what you are saying, Congo - i totally feel you on these kinds of things... i wouldn't blame anyone for being suspicious and i certainly wouldn't want to be the one to blame for unknowingly promoting a scam. everyone should do their own due diligence if they want to be as close to 100% sure as possible. and in life, as in Jamaican money scams and ginalship in general, there are no guarantees!

but, it seems on the level to me:

1. as i said, the goal amount is modest. $1000 USD goes a
long way in Jamaica for a regular person, but for a
scammer that would be small potatos.

2. without naming names, a well-respected and regarded
forum member on the PAMA forum who knows Jazzbo and
his long time live in girlfriend Sue (and many, many
other Kingston musicians and entertainers) verified
the story.

3. furthermore, the member said this, which is good enough
for me: "The page is put up by his live-in girlfriend,
Sue. She is legit, and heart-broken over all of this.
I also know that other money delivered to Jazzbo via
Sue was received by the man himself, and not diverted."

Jazzbo is apparently resting at home.... if you have ever seen the inside of a place like KPH, you would understand that it's not a place you want to spend your last days there.

and although Jamaica does indeed provide free medical care to all it's citizens, he would be in for a wait no matter what his celebrity status or condition. and then, he would be sent home anyway.... many seriously injured or ill patients are treated and sent home without additional support from places like KPH because they simply have no space or treatment for them.


anyways, i donated some money via Paypal. not a huge amount, and i did not use that fundme site because i am
not crazy about sending debit card info over a site like that. the Paypal goes to someone else, who i am sure is as concerned about Jazzbo's comfort as all of us are.

Thanks Black Belt.... I'm seriously thinking about it. I love the man's music, I seriously do, and if $1000 bucks is all it takes to help him then I can certainly throw a bit towards that....I think we all could.... I also understand from a freind who's wife worked in the hospital in Kingston, that it is not the sort of place you want to be...

the link for Jazzbo's fund is now also on main page of the dancecrasher.co.uk website, hopefully that will get the fund a wider audience.
