i was suprised to recently discover that justin hinds' "here i stand" is in fact a cover of a doo wop song by an artist named wade flemons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORlizz3J4Rs). i wonder how many other tunes in this era are in fact, covers? one that springs to mind is the tennors "weather report", which is in fact a cover of "the only living boy in new york" by simon and garfunkel....

It means 95% of Rocksteady artist didn't know how to write a song.Maybe they learned it during reggae time.
Or maybe :
For Studio One, when the artists came for audition,Clement always said "No Original Tunes,I Want A Cover ,jackson!!"
For Treasure isle,Duke put his guns on the face of the artists and said "A Cover Or Your Life".
And I don't talk about Bunny Lee,Phil Pratt ect...
Thanks for this precious information,guys!!!

i know i said "i wonder how many tunes from this era are in fact covers", i know that the vast majority of rocksteady tunes are covers, what i was getting at was how many are obscure covers, i.e. you listen the tune, think it might be original, but you are suprised to learn that it's a cover of some unknown artist.

here's another example. this is "it comes and goes" by the melodians, great tune, www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIxGXmooM6g‎

it is a cover of some singer named "Sadina" (original at www.youtube.com/watch?v=eesP61J39kM) and i found out this tune was actually written by Neil Diamond (he of Red Red Wine fame).
