Black Uhuru Love Crisis/Black Sounds of Freedom question

Can someone explain the differences and history between the two versions? I am being a lazy person I know and I am going to download all the versions to hear for myself but I wanted to see what the experts on the forum thought first.

Why was Love Crisis rerecorded/remixed (?) and which dub set is related to which album?

Does Uhuru in Dub = Love Crisis and In Lion Dub Style = Black Sounds of Freedom? Are these both Prince Jammy's work or an apprentice of his?

Which version of the albums and dubs do you prefer?

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure Uhuru in Dub = Black Sounds of Freedom, and In Lion Dub Style = Love Crisis... at least that's what I recall reading. The first set wasn't re-recorded; it was re-mixed with overdubs added. I guess Jammy thought it was worth a gamble to invest a little more work (and a new title) to see if it would make more $$$ the second time around. Greensleeves must be glad he did.

Is there more to this story?

"Jammies In Lion Dub Style is not a straight dub version to Love Crisis/Black Sounds Of Freedom".

From memory only about 6 of the dubs on that album are from the "Love Crisis/Black Sounds of Freedom set.

Also from memory I believe the mixes are a bit heavier on that album against those on the "Black Uhuru in Dub" which is the dub counterpart to Love Crisis/Black Sounds Of Freedom".

Personally both dub albums are brilliant and should be in any serious dub collection.

As for the vocal, "Love Crisis" was the original 1977 Jamaican mix which was then remixed/overdubbed and reissued as "Black Sounds of Freedom" in 1981.

@babaluma

For the vocal, I prefer "Black Sounds..." (the reissue), and I agree with Rootsman about both dubs.

Since you can get "Love Crisis," AND "Black Sounds..." AND "BU in Dub" in a reasonably priced three-fer, and the "Lion Dub" LP for $10, I'd say they're all essential.
