This site lists both Original Foreign Mind for Sugar Minott and Boom-shaka-lack for Jammys/Greensleeves as 1985 releases. Does anyone of you know which of the two was released first? Could it be that Boom-shaka-lack has been released a year earlier in JA on Jammys and in 1985 it was sort of re-released on Greensleeves?

Close call if you look at the international releases.

For the record, he recorded first with Sugar and then with Jammy. So the recordingsessions with Sugar Minott are older.

What was he doing between Voice of Progress/Mini Bus Driver (1982) and the 2 1985 albums? I saw him on tour with Sugar and Don Carlos and Gold but he was doing the Voice of Progress songs if I remember right.

He was probably struggling heavily for some time after witnessing the murder of his close friend and sort of mentor Hugh Mundell.

You saw Junior, Don Carlos and Sugar live in the early 80s??? I envy you.

Reid's "Original Foreign Mind" LP came out before "Shaka Lack Rock". The tracks on the LP were recorded over quite a span of time, and Sugar hurried to put the LP out to capitalize on the 45, which was Youth Promotion's biggest seller up to that point, and a massive hit in JA.

Jammy's released "Shaka Lack" on Greensleeves first, and then gave the LP (in the Greensleeves jacket) to Dynamic to distribute throughout The Carribean region.

I can't think of ANY LP that Greensleeves released that first came out in Jamaica, although I am sure someone will point out if there exceptions to this rule of "U.K first, JA second".

While Reid spent a lot of time being mentored by Sugar, it's worth noting that he did record some earlier tracks for Jammy, with "Jailhouse" and "Higgler Move" being examples.

Yes it was in Glasgow, Junior opened and did a couple of songs (including "Mini Bus Driver" and a Bob Marley medley I think), Don Carlos and Gold did a few including "Them Never Know..." and "Blackout in the Ghetto" and Sugar did a full set of which the highlight for me was "Oh Mr DC", it was a great night.

Nice infos, davek. So "Jailhouse" was first recorded for Jammy right? Then came the Sugar Minott production and then later Junior re-re-recorded it again, I'm quite sure I have another version of it on some semi-bogus VP records Junior Reid compilation.

Oh and by the way... then later he and the song were featured by Poor Rightous Teachers "Dreadful Day" (on the Animals' House of the rising sun sample). One of the best rap songs out there imho.

Well it wasn't all great, my mate's car broke down on the way back, I didn't get back home till about 5 am and was working the next day!
