Hey guys, I'm sure I saw that topic already, but can't seem to find. Sorry if this one is a duplicate request.

I'm a white kid who was born in Russia and lives in Canada. I love reggae music and I really want to visit Jamaica! I don't want to hangout by the pool. I want to explore Kingston, see legendary studios, check out local shows and all that other fun stuff! I want to learn what to do and where to be careful.

I've started planning that trip and saving money for it. Could you please give me a couple of recommendations or just a link to a similar topic, because I swear I saw a thread about Jamaica Trip. Thanks guys!

Get in touch with my brother from another mother Gaylord Bravo, a respected indie producer in downtown Kingston. I've produced a couple of U Roy albums with him, Gregory, etc... at Leggo Studio on Orange street.

He knows everyone and will take you (for a small fee) everywhere you need to go. I've put television, radio, journalists, musicians in touch with him and they were all delighted.

Bravo? He mixed the Roots Radics "Dub fi Junjo" Album.

Great work. Nuff respect.

Be sure to make it up to the Kingston Dub Club. Not much of a club, rather a sound system set up in Gabre Selassie's yard up in Jacks Hill overlooking Kingston. Every Sunday night there is a session from 8pm - 2am and it's free. There is food and drinks for sale and you will see all sorts of artists wandering around. Mark Wonder, Mikey General, Kiddus I are among the regulars there and every week there is a guest selector or artist.

Also, Dubwise Wednesday is every week outside at Whitebones located on Mannings Hill or Constant Spring Rd in Kingston. It is put on by Yaadcore and also has a guest selector or artist every week.

There is also an event called Vinyl Thursdays but I'm not sure if that is every week.

Both Gabre and Yaadcore are putting in a lot of effort to keep the roots and sound system culture going in JA. You would definitely want to check out either of these events and they draw quite a bit of people.

You shouldn't have any trouble finding info on any of these events, but you can message me if you have any questions or can't find what you need.

Thanks for the feedback! Thank you Guillaume and JP!

Our trip is getting a bit more realistic. We're going there in the beginning of November, right after The Fest in Gainesville. We would like to stay for a week on the beach and the ocean. Would like to avoid Montego Bay, because everyone says it's very touristy. So now we're trying to find a place which is still close to the beach, but not super touristy. We heard great things about Negril. Has anyone been?

And then we would like to go and explore Kingston. I already emailed Gaylord Bravo, found Kingston Dub Club and reviewed upcoming events by Yaadcore. This is all super exciting!!!

Thanks for all your suggestions! Feel free to share any other ideas or recommendations! Greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I wish you a great trip Tima, I met some wonderful people there when I visited in the early 90's. It is great you have a contact for Kingston, it will make it a great experience. I envy your trip!

Take care & best wishes.

A report on the whole thing would be something I would relish to read.
Good luck!
