i don't like comparison between musicians by and large.i would understand if if was who is best on melodica.
when it comes to piano and organ,the first names to come to my mind are:jackie mittoo,winston wright,teophilius beckford,cecil lloyd,glastone anderson before thinking about those who surfaced in the 70's.the first named started out ja music,in the pre ska and ska days.when it comes to the keyboards and organ in general,jackie mittoo was the one who established the names of organ in ja.he is referred to as the jamaican jimmy smith.oftentimes,he himself would say to winston wright that the latter was really the king of the organ and he(jackie) should stay on the piano.so i don't see how we should skip these people when it comes to the keys.
as for pavlove black he was there at studio one ,playing organ,piano and melodica before augustus pablo.but the latter really established the name of the melodica as a solo instrument among the general public

I am not a great fan of Jazz, I much prefer Swing and Boogie Woogie.

I expecially don't really like the more experimental improvised jazz but I love the comparison of Jimmy Smith with Jackie Mittoo.

I do like Jimmy Smith's stuff, and I have many Mittoo LPs where the line between Jazz and reggae starts to blur. Great stuff.

I used to love Augustus Pablo's melodica stuff but nowadays I seem to find the instrument annoying. Maybe it hurts my damaged ears? Whatever, I rarely listen tohis stuff anymore.
