Is there a JA pressing of Sugar's monster cross-over hit single 'Good Thing Going' ? Either on 12 or 7 inch format?

Same thing with the LP, was this originally released in JA?

Yes
You can find it on a 12" from the Hawkeye label & on a 7" from the RCA label. Not sure on the LP but there is a CD titled 'Good Thing Going' by him.

Yes, I have it on Hawkeye, and on RCA 12 inches (also in various coloured vinyls!) And I have the LP and CD - but these are ALL UK releases.

Is it not available on his own Black Roots label or anything similar?

And I have only just found out (while trying to find a comprehensive discog of ALL Sugar's releases) that 'Good Thing Going' was a M Jackson / Jackson Five hit in 1972! I HAVE to hear that original version...

Ernie B has the Sugar on a Jamaican 7" Black Roots right now!

Isn't Ernie B's stock all new? I'm looking for pressings that came before the UK versions (RCA) - ie: from the early 80s.

Leggo, I think it's obvious the Jamaican 7" that Ernie B has is a revive and not an original pressing. Also that Jackson 5 song is not the same as Sugar Minott's - just check the lyrics:

JP! I was trying to be polite (it's a quaint old English custom)

Of course I could see the Ernie B stuff was new. The note on the website telling you everything is factory fresh is a bit of a give away.

But I think it's obvious from my original post that I am looking for original pressings - because I ask if the song was originally pressed and released in JA. I am not familiar with Enrie B, mainly because I don't often buy new vinyl, being more interested in getting stuff on original presses. It's a nostalgia thing, it stems from me owning these records when they were new in the shops in the 70s and early 80s.

And you're wrong on the second point - I don't care what the lyrics you linked me to say because I now have a copy of the Jackson 5 / Michael Jackson version of this song (it's on the 'Ben' LP out of Tamla Motown) and it most certainly is the exact same song.

It's got the same tune, the same synchopation, the same lyrics, even same mood. It just has a different singer.

Also, if you look at the credits on both the Ben LP and the Sugar version(s) of the song, you'll see 'The Corporation' are credited as the songwriters.

The Corporation are :Berry Gordy, Deke Richards, Fonzie Mizell & Freddie Perren

Gordy credited writing and production on (mainly, but not exclusively) Jackson 5 records (and related solo projects and constellations) to "The Corporation"

So maybe Jacko recorded two songs with the same name?

No problem Leggo, apologies for any little misuderstandings.

In your first post you asked -
"Is there a JA pressing of Sugar's monster cross-over hit single 'Good Thing Going'"
(no mention of original pressings).

I posted the link to the lyrics of the Jackson 5 song (which I have not heard) because they were not the same as Sugar's 'Good Thing Going', but you are absolutely right - the same song is on Michael Jackson's 'Ben' LP, titled 'We've Got A Good Thing Going'.

All is cool

Sometimes communicating with text isn't the best, as misunderstandings come too easy in this type of communication.

Let's all keep it sweet.

And the Jacko version of Good Things is actually REALLY good!

~ But now I am left wondering what the 'other' version you pointed out is all about and sounds like!
