Hi!
Compared to other Marley releases, the Survival album has a dusty sound without a good dynamic range. It sounds like the highs were cut off.
Anyone knows why there is such a difference to the other albums? What happend during the production/recording process?
Give thanks, blessed,
I-Lion

This album wa mixed by the wailers without chris Blackwell.
Marley was critised with the exodus and kaya albums, too commercial so may be he wanted to back to roots with a different sound more militant

It is said Marley removed this title in respect with his white friends (like Vincent Ford, his friend who is credited on Natty Dread and who play melodica on the album). Im not sure its that true, sound more like a CB commercial change.

hi there
vincent touter forsd is not a white man;he is a black even though it doesn't mean anything to me and has got no relevance whatsoever as for the music.you are talking about the melodica player on talking blues and rebel mujusic on "natty dread",then it must be lee jaffe who produced the first solo album by peter tosh"legalize it".
the thing is that they were very aware of the impact that the words could have, mostly coming from an icon as popular and important both socially and politically;so the word"black"could be considered tooexclusive for people from other races.this is my feeling.they also had to consider the record company responsibility.
