Rootsman - I checked Dub Directory and there are no dub version listed, although they do list many dub versions of other Burning Spear songs.

Hi Guys

Thanks for that, not the answer I was hoping for but the one I expected.

I knew it wasn`t any of the living dub sets as I already knew what the vocal counterparts of these albums were.

The "Dry and Heavy" set is a classic and is deserving of a dub counterpart. So, maybe one day.

Thanks

Respect

Dave

Rootsman Dave,

Some impossible to find originals...

Throw Down Your Arms / Version (JA 7" Burning Spear)

Dry & Heavy / School Days (JA 7" Burning Spear)

The Sun / The Youth (JA 12" Burning Spear)

Also of interest is the Jamaican issue of the Dry & Heavy LP on Burning Spear. A superior mix to the Island / Mango one.

JP, is that Burning Spear mix of Cry and heavy a later version, or did it preceed the Island version?

I have often seen Burning Spear stuff on the Burning Spear label but always assumed this was later stuff pressed by the band later in their career when good business sense and confidence allowed them to do their own pressings.

Leggo, I don't know when the Ja mix was released. A friend sent me a tape of it many years after I picked up the Mango copy. I always assume the Ja mix as the original with a more roots authentic sound.

Sadly Island/Mango have at times tampered with the Ja master tapes of Bunny Wailer, Bob Marley & Burning Spear to suit their own agenda. Virgin Front Line probably remixed some LP's too...like the various artists compilation Hottest Hits From Treasure Isle (although this one was a good 'clean' remix!).

Hi Leggo,

The Spear mixes on his Burnng Spear label preceeded the island / mango mixes.

The Burnbing Spear issued were JA where as the island / mango were remixed for the european market.

The Living dub 1 & 2 albums on the Burning Spear label also proceeded the later heartbeat mixes.

OK, so now I have to go out and find Burning Spear version of all my Birning Spear / Island stuff.

What about the stuff on FOX, which mixes are these???

Same remixing meddling goes for Greensleeves, find the JA originals of stuff like Barrington Levi and you'll hear that they aren't the same mixes as Greensleeves!
