Wow 70+ people here are interested in reggae enough to read this post , but none of you have bought any reggae music?

Is it because I have the word 'bought' in the subject header?

Does this mean that 70+ reggae fans are stealing music?:)

Maybe 70+ people here secretly despise reggae & are really undercover head-banging death metal fans?

Surely 1 person out of 70 has purchased some reggae in the last week....?......month...?.....Year........?.....no?, oh well then I'm off to bed , turn the lights off when ya leave.;l

Honestly... often I get the feeling that these types of threads are made purely (or mainly) to "boast" about the rare gems someone has bought and make us jealous ;-) It seems to be more about showing off - than about an interest in what others have bought. I guess boasting was never your intention, jj. Sorry.

But maybe a lot of other readers get the same feeling too, and maybe that's why no one has posted yet. And to tell you the truth... I don't really remember what my last 10 purchases where. I bought the Warika Dub CD on Amazon. And before that Red Rose and King Kong "Two big bull inna one pen".

But no, heavy metal and illegal downloading have absolutely nothing to do with it. Not for me anyway.

Because of mentions of Naturality in another thread, I've ordered the Gladiators set with 4 Front Line albums on 2 CDs.

Also Lord Tanamo In the Mood for Ska and the Rebel Music compilation which someone recommended.

Hi Gabranth, thanks for your reply. I understand what you mean about the boasting part. You're right - not my intention. I'm just interested to see what others have spent their hard earned $$ on!

vtov - Nice one - it does seem people are buying that box strictly for Naturality. Great album!

I'm not familiar with the Lord Tanamo. Do you like it?

Rebel Music - must be the one on Trojan? I see it for under gbp5 on the Juno website in the UK.
Top selection!

Good on you guys for joining in the conversation. :)

cheers

yes jj - order hasn't arrived yet but will report back on the Lord Tanamo. I don't know all the tunes either, but remember him fondly as a friendly fellow mingling round the club after (and during) Skatalite shows.

Rebel Music is the one with the brown cover, but this other similar one looks good too:

A next purchase must be the Man from Wareika with Dub set from Rico.

Big Up's to all who have joined in, after all a message board without any messages is......a board!? (bored):)

Vtov - I know the Rebel Music you mean - that's a fantastic compilation.

Sisaket - Great way to pick up the best of the Pulse! Several extended mixes on that as well iirc?

I-Lion - Hope your saving plan is coming along? - It will be great when you have bought it & can play some tunes.

Last one I have found & ordered is Burning Spears - The Fittest Of The Fittest - Heartbeat CD 1983(to replace my worn vinyl copy)

& arrived in the post today
Desmond Dekker - Israelites/Dub - Beverly's 7"
Rico - Man From Wareika/Wareika Dub 2CD set that Vtov will be ordering soon:).

Right I'm off to the stereo....

I saw this thread and was thinking about replying, but the thing is I often buy so much at once, like my last shopping spree, which was on a trip where I hauled home several bags of vinyl. So I couldn't list all of my last purchase and I was to lazy to bother to pick something out. But, since you're on that subject, *Naturality* was actually part of it, but the original LP, in mint condition. :-)

To pick a few other nice LP finds out of the bunch: Mighty Diamonds ‎*Stand Up To Your Judgement* (Channel One), Junior Delgado: *Taste Of The Young Heart* (DEB), Johnny Clarke: *Dread Natty Congo* (Weed Beat) and *Don't Stay Out Late* (Paradise) and Gregory Isaacs: *Cool Ruler* (the latter may seem common, since it's such a well known album, but I like to buy my vinyl in physical stores, and it has actually proved very hard to find it via that route).

To pick a recent CD, one I've been looking for, Black Roots "On The Frontline" (Makasound), which was a bit of a disappointment since it turns out it's from vinyl rips.

I wonder if it was my mentioning of *Rebel Music* in the "If you had one chance"-thread? In that thread I was referring to the original 2-LP, the one with dots on the cover, as in the link above. The "brown cover" one I think was supposed to be kind of an updated version of it, only about half the tracks are the same: http://www.discogs.com/Various-Rebel-Mu ... ter/229804 There was also a second volume: http://www.discogs.com/Various-Rebel-Mu ... se/2110930 These are all excellent!
