Don't know about Ken Boothe but 'Columbus' by Burning Spear is a first class roots song [from the LP Hail H. I. M.]

From what I can tell, the song in question doesn't appear to be available on cd at the moment. However, it is listed on 2 Ken Boothe LP's on this website...'Imagine' and 'Two Of A Kind' (with Tyrone Taylor). Not exactly items that are readily available at the local music mart.

There's also a repress pon fox label with "where my friend" on B side... but not a great press... very noisy...

You're right about that pressing Gunosantos - but wasn't the Christopher Columbus side relatively clean but not Where My Friends. Thought that's how mine went.

Strangely enough, just saw that it appears to be repressed again - the label looked different from the repress that I have but I didn't buy it yet.

The lp version of Christopher Columbus that Dave mentions from Two of a Kind plays fine and seems to be the same take as the repress 45 from what I can remember.

Ken Boothe just mashes that song up big time!

Though i really love Ken Boothe and he's one of my very fav artist, i think Imagine is really weak with that digital sound (Boothe still has a beautiful voice but it's spoilt with poor backing). I guess it's a bit overrated cause of that Columbus song (see http://tinyurl.com/26utbj on ebay for instance).
The best way to hear that killer song with a good backing is to see Ken Boothe live cause he plays it (at least he played it the last 2 times i saw him). Unfortunately, i was thinking the song to be on the "live in Paris" CD but i checked and it's not (i'm not sure he played it that night).

Btw, if someone has recorded one of his live sessions (especially in Paris or suburb, i'm really interested)

In fact, I guess my copy of "Christopher Colombus/Where My friend" is the latest repress pon Fox label... mine was bought few months ago.

The A-Side wich is Christopher Colombus is indeed better than the other side... but it's still not great... in the first 30 sec there's a lot of volume variation (going up and down..).. But B side is horrible, this variation stands for the whole song, besides the heavy background noise...

Right afterwards, I put on my decks the Observer repress... my ears give thanks!!!

Even more right now, hearing King Tubby's version "Lotion A Guy From Spain"

So, there's at least two represses of Christopher Colombus still available:

- KEN BOOTHE - Christopher Columbus / Where My Friend [FOX repress (white label) Matrix # A.LINDO 002-A & 001-B] * Avoid this one (unless you reeaaaly love this song and wanna have both, like I do... :))

- KEN BOOTHE - Christopher Columbus / KING TUBBYS - Lotion A Guy From Spain [Observer Repress - Matrix # 29003-A & 29003-B] * Grab dis one... Killleeeerrr!!!

Blessings
