Original Rockers - STRINGS

IMO this is one of the greatest Instrumental/Dub albums ever... And I wanted to ask a few questions about it...

1º) Regarding it's cover, who are the 2 guys in the picture? Are they "Flacko" Palmer & Michael Palmer (in this left to right order)???

2º) What is the relation between them? I heard someone said they're brothers - what I really believe to be true...

3º) Is this Michael Palmer from Negus Roots label the same Michael Palmer singer? I really believe they are the same person, as on STRINGS cover the guy on the right side really looks like M. Palmer the singer... but I might be wrong as I never checked this info...

I really LOVE Negus Roots label and all their (few) album releases.... I wonder if the "Musical Ambassador" is going to re-release dis one too, as I've been looking fot the original for a long time....

Thanx in advance...

Blessings,

Now taking a closer look on Michael Palmer's (singer) pictures, they don't seem to be the same... Even coz the one from Strings has dreadlocks, and Negus Roots label only existed from 81/2 to 84/5... and on all M. Palmer albums from this era he appears without any dreadlocks...

So I think the answer to my 3rd question is NO, they are not the same person...

Any thoughts?

Hey Gunosantos,

I've been told that the Palmer's are in fact brothers, but the producer and singer are not the same person.

The brothers are still around (somewhere), but as you mentioned, they have given the rights of the Negus Roots Label to the Musical Ambasador "Trevor Elliot" who is re-pressing many of the originals.

Hopefully they re-press Strings (I honestly think they intend to), cuz those heavy riddims are clasics.

By the way, your taste for music is wicked. I love your show, and keep my computer tuned in as much as I can. I have a similar taste of roots as you. Much respect!

I'm not sure, but if the cover presents the ones who did the music it might be:

Wazier (with the drum sticks) and Hugie Issachar (withe the bass).

The pic match with this one for H Issachar: http://www.systemrecords.co.uk/hughieis ... 67678.html

H Issachar seems to be UK reggae veteran who work nowaday with Jah Warrior and used to work with Shaka and Mad Professor back in the days (according a Jah Warrior ITW).
He also played bass & rhythm guitare on th Pablo Gad's Hard Time LP. This Pablo Gad LP make another link between Negus Roots & 12 Tribes as Pablo Gad is a 12 Tribes member (I think he is, need confirmation) and Imruh Asher did backing vocal for the Pablo Gad LP and Imruh Asher had his first LP (Tribute to The Emperor) which he recorded over Negus Roots riddims (a very good LP IMO).

Perhaps H Issachar is the same person as Orthodox Issachar who is part of the 12 Tribes and released two CD few years ago?

Great wareika. Never thought it could be the musicians... but now u said who they are it seems pretty clear that u might be right.

I've already seen other (better) pictures of Hugh Isaachar and definetly it must be him. My friend's got the "BLOW PIPE" LP, and it's quite a great modern roots instrumental... he pays a tribute to Augustus Pablo blowing the melodica on dis one...

I also believe Pablo Gad is a member of the 12 Tribes... I'm quite sure i've read this somewhere, but can't confirm.... gonna try his booklets & lp I have...

btw, Imruh Asha lp is entitled "Tribute to Selassie I" and I also enjoy it very much... although his vocal sometimes reach such highs that almost hurt my ears... LOL :)

About Orthodox Isaachar of the 12 Tribes, I'd say that u might be right again...

Thanks fe share your reasonings...

Respeck & Blessings,

This isn't an LP I'd ever considered hunting down. I guess because it isn't JA recorded.

But I admit that lots of stuff done in London at the time (Adrian Sherwood for instance) was top notch so I guess here's another for my wish list - the one that gets bigger all the time no matter how much vinyl I buy!

It is indeed Wazair (of Shaka and ariwa fame) and hughie Izachaar (this guy is everywhere!!) "Original Rockers" refers to them as a duo...they represent the UK end of the Negus Roots Posse. They played the sound on many of the later negus roots 12"s.. aDam
