I have this song in my mind for two months now.I go through my stuff and can´t find it. It´s for sure not roots, maybe not even Jamaican but it sounds to me like some reggae hit from the early 70s, maybe with some strings...Its a female voice singing:
"you never know what you've got
till it's gone
listen baby" (and repeats)

Im sure its a very famous song.
