Prince Douglas - Dub Roots

I just checked this LP and noticed a cover artwork I'd not seen before, this one:

http://www.roots-archives.com/display_artwork/2859.jpg

I have an 'original' press of this on Wackies, but it has the yellow coloured sleeve. So what's with the black and white (b ut same artwork)??? Is it a really early pressing of the LP? Or is it the repress cover??

...and sorry to quote myself from another post but...

"This is one of the best dub albums in the world. The haunting rootsie sound, laced with the touches of Douglas and Barnes, is just sooooo good.

"I could play the track 'North of the Border Dub' on loop for days on end!"

Ites Leggo,
I have a pressing of this record W295, but it must be a reissue since it references a website, www.wackies.de (unless they already knew their domain name years before the WWW was even created :)). My copy has the yellow cover as well. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the white cover either.

@ MightyZ: Yep, you recognise it, but at least it all went to a good home ;) (when are you gonna sell me all the rest!)

@ Jah Chicken: Yes, yours is the later repress JC.

Still no info on the white cover...

Hey Leggo,

I have seen that cover before, it is on a T shirt that was owned by an old friend of mine.

He has owned it for ages, he also has 2 other Wackies T shirts one of which is the Jamaican Super Dub T Shirt and the other has the Wackies with Lion logo.

He bought them online, I think from the States. I asked if he could get me a couple but he never came back to me.

In respect to the album itself, I have only ever seen the yellow cover.

Anyway, hope your well.

Dave

Ites Leggo,
Is it common for represses to share the exact same Matrix # as the original pressing (granted it is repress on the same label)? If so, aside from an obvious clue like a web link, how do you go about telling the difference?

Sometimes the Matrix is the same, sometimes (usually with bigger labels) and extra digit is etched on, like RCA0001-A becomes RCA0001-A-1

With Wackies represses it's easy, you have extra info on the label that gives away the date, like you say: a web address.

With others you need to don your Deer Stalker hat and Churchwarden pipe and become a Sherlock Holmes.

Stuff like label colour, where the jacket was printed, and even what type of depression is featured on the wax UNDER the label. (Large depression near edge of label usually denotes a JA issue, smaller more central depression is usually UK, US etc)

Bar codes on jackets date records as later pressings.

Other times the repress comes out on a different label. So it's just a question of learning which label is which. For which the Roots Archives database has been a BIG BIG help to me.

It's very tough, especially when buying over the Internet and as a result I have a fair few that weren't quite what I expected, sometimes for the better, usually for the worse.
