Hi Guys.

Whats is this album like ?

http://www.roots-archives.com/release/4411

I want the track "Satta Dread"

I don`t want to purhase it on the "Dancehall Stylee" Various Artists or "Arise Rootsman" Various Artists as I have many of the tracks that appear on those 2 releases.

I know it is on this US produced album but don`t know anything about it.

Can anyone give me some feedback.

Thanks

Dave

I bought this album about a month ago and would unconditionally recommend it (so much so that I have another thread on this forum talking about how good it is).
The cover art is very dated and it is from a US label so, I was very skeptical. The material inside, however, is all quality and IMHO at least as good as Bubble Up which is an excellent album as well. It has more tracks as well and the sound quality is wonderful. No bad songs or bad 80s sound at all.

Hi Jason.

Thanks for the heads up.

I have the "Chip In" and also "Bubble Up" and the "Horace Andy Meets Wayne Jarrett and Naggo Morris" on Wackies.

If its anywhere near as good as those then it is definately worth having.

By the way, what sort of feedback did you get on your original post ?

Dave

This LP sold cheaply on ebay last week. Didn't bid as I was already maxxed out on a load of other stuff.

I would like to hear it, or hear some more opinion on it though.

It would have to go some to be as good as Chip In, Bubble UP and also What's Wrong With The Youths (especially 'Staurday Night Jamboree' what a total KILLA track that is!)

Any chance of some clips Jason?

I have to admit, I'm not much of a techie. transferring vinyl to digital isn't a skill I have. I do believe that there are samples of Satta Dread that you can hear from the compilation albums. All the tracks are along those lines. I do have an official copy of Bubble UP on Cd and an unofficial copy of Chip In and the Horace Andy/ N. Morris/ W. Jarrett disc downloaded from Soul Seek.
Inner Circle is not as spacey/ effect-laden as Chip In. It sounds more along the lines of Bubble Up. I had passed up the album once because of the artwork but went back to the store and decided to give it a try (it was $3.50 US so I thought it was worth a try). Surprisingly good material in my opinion. Very much along the lines of Jarrett or H. Andy's Wackies stuff. Now that I've heard it, I would have paid more for the disc because it is good work.
Of course this is my opinion, I know there is a lot of debate on RA. I own about 550 official releases of roots material and have downloaded about 200-300 albums which are unavaailable. All are roots material. So, I have SOME (not all) idea of what is out there. I consider a great album.

$3.50! Can I have the address of that store!!

Digitising vinyl is easy, if time consuming - being a 'real time' recording technique.

Plug your deck into an amp, plug a phono to mini jack lead into the tape out on the amp, take this to your line in port on your computer sound card (Apple Macs have them built in, as do most PCs with half-decent hardware).

Load up whatever audio software you can buy / scrounge. Drop the needle onto the wax and away you go. Save the resulting file and there's your MP3!
