The list is very very long.

But this is a GREAT Johnny Clarke LP:

OR, maybe try listening to my radio station that plays the stuff you speak of from the era you mention?

It'll give you some ideas.

'Tuff' to miss out on this one if you're looking for ruff roots,,,

Speaking of the Twinkle Brothers...I don't think their 1985 'Anti-Apartheid' LP is not listed on this site [unless I'm just overlooking it] --- 10 for 10 roots with:

1. Africa For The Africans
2. African Nation Come Together
3. Let I Go
4. Africa Must Be Free
5. African Liberation

1. Free Africa
2. Rasta Pon Top
3. Free Us
4. Barabas
5. Big Bam Bam

Not sure if they're the same mix, but a few of the same song titles can be found on 'Rasta Pon Top'.

The BEST Roots album I've bought thus far this year:

The Rastafarian: Orthodox (1981)

If you like Pablo Gad you'll love this album.

From the uk is the cimarons. "maka" especially is a heavy album.

of course Abyssinians "satta massagana" amd "arise" are both very nice roots

Anything (though preferably earlier) from bunny wailer is hard to top.

I love Hoarce Andy "exclusively" produced at wackies
Most of things from Wackies production has an urban grit that is dark and heavy.
Prince Douglas "Dub Roots" is the same production, essential dub album!

This is suberb IMO of course and well worth it.
Two classic albums from 1976 on one CD.
Top musicians mixed by Scientist, recorded at Black Ark & Channel One.
