Anyone have any views on how this will affect gigs when the venues go smoke free on 1st July?

The smoking ban has been in full effect here for 3 years now .ca.At some music venues herb is tolerated while cancer sticks will get thrown out.

In New Zealand its been in force for about 2 years. It has effected some nite clubs but venues havent been effected too badly.
It sucks if your girlfriend smokes , you spend a lot of time outside.

It's the Venues that get the fines, So it's up to them to enforce the ban or they get closed down, so the people who want to enjoy gigs at these venues could inadvertantly be responsible for it being closed down. The fines could be in excess of £1000 per person if they a prosecuted.
Of course baylon can't deal with all the smokers, that's why they'll hit the club and pub owners....

In Sweden it's been like this for quite some time and I've got only positive things to say about it. It feels good to be able to go to a party and when you return home not smell like an ashtray.
And it's not a matter of Babylon controlling where you can smoke, it's more a matter of making safe working spots for people like bartenders and such.

I am a non-smoker who is actually against tobacco smoking full stop, I have worked for 20 years in the music biz and have been surrounded by people who smoke both spliff and cigarettes. I agree with the smoking ban, but I can also see the problems this could cause at venues.
I have toured the states and played in smoke free venues there and it works ok. The UK attitude is different, people in the UK live in a society where smoking is the norm whereas, the US is a non smoking country where you have the freedom to smoke if you want (though with restictions). I've been in Hell's Angel bars in SF where they all go outside to smoke, even outlaws seem to respect the law over there.
The main point of my topic is really to discuss wether the lack of people smoking herb at gigs will kill the vibe....

Speaking from Scotland where we've had the ban for a while, it doesn't kill the vibe (for me anyway, being into beer not smoke) but you do get more of a smell of sweaty bodies!! Everybody seems to observe the ban, even in pretty dodgy pubs. I used to smoke (tobacco) and I don't preach against it, but I don't honestly miss it.
