If, like me, you think Greensleeves released some of the best 12 inch singles during reggae's glory days - then you might want to check this link:

I love these old Greensleeves 12" singles. Thank God I have quite a few of them in my collection. This compilation is not bad - but it's on CD :X

I wish Greensleeves would re-issue more of their stuff on vinyl. Let's see what happens now that Greensleeves was sold after 30 years. But I'm not too optimistic that we will see a lot of vinyl re-issues in the future.

What is the difference between the exact same song on a 12" or CD soundwise?

A light on Greensleeves release

This the answer from Greensleeves.
Thanks to Mickey to give me the respons of Greensleevs by Liam.

Nice idea Mickey but I can't see that happening. You have to bear in mind that with so many releases that we are knocking out, that time and expense plays a major part. Labels like Pressure Sounds and all aren’t releasing four albums a month and so they have more time to work their titles. By the time we put a title out there are another 4 in the pipeline..Also, you have to bear in mind that as well as releasing oldies, our main concern is (should be) to release great new music by great current artists, as hard as that is to do right now! I’d love to see the Wailing Souls Most Wanted release on a nice double (or triple or quad) vinyl set but it’s a unrealistic that we would actually shift than many units to make it worth the effort, sad to say.

However, these 12”s re-presses will be coming soon.

GRED 1 - WAILING SOULS – WAR / JAH GIVE US LIFE

GRED 35 - BARRINGTON LEVY – MARY LONG TONGUE / LOOK YOUTHMAN

GRED 57 – RANKING DREAD – FATTIE BOOM BOOM / LOVE A DUB

GRED 59 - MICHAEL PROPHET – GUNMAN / CASSANDRA

GRED 91 – TRISTON PALMER – JOKER SMOKER / PAPA BRUCE – LOAFER SMOKER

GRED 119 – YELLOWMAN – ZUNGGUZUNG… / WHO CAN MAKE THE DANCE RAM?

> GRED 57 – RANKING DREAD – FATTIE BOOM BOOM / LOVE A DUB

Have Greensleeves really dropped two **crucial** Ranking Dread 12" dub sides here? Both these tracks were originally A sides of GRED 57 & GRED 65.

GRED 57
A - Love A Dub - Ranking Dread
B - Dub A Dub - Roots Radics Band & Jackie Mittoo

GRED 65
A - Fattie Boom Boom
B - Dub Boom - Sly & Robbie

Thanks Lion, it's very interesting to read what Greensleeves has to say.

To Jah Glu: "What is the difference between the exact same song on a 12" or CD soundwise?"

I think you can compare vinyl collectors to stamp collectors. A stamp collector will always want to own the original One Penny Black or the Blue Mauritius and not just a photocopy of it. For me CDs are like a "photocopy". I want to own the original (or at least a vinyl re-issue).

It also upsets me that I can't play some of the older CDs I own anymore as they have already started to destroy themselves. I own vinyl records that are older than me (I'm almost 40) and they still sound fresh and crisp because they been taken good care of over the years. Let's wait and see if we can still play the CDs we buy today in 40 years!?

Greetings, Lee

The difference between CDs and Vinyl? (here we go AGAIN)

One is analogue, one is digital.

And our ears? Well they are analogue instruments and can easily tell the differnce between the 'sharp' sound of digital reproduction and the warm rounded sound of vinyl.

The other difference? Vinyl takes up WAY more space - but a large vinyl collection looks really spectacular!

:D

And Lee D is absolutely right, CDs are not as indestructable as many think, and even when carefully stored and used, they do seem to simply stop working after a while.

I won't be purchasing that CD, sorry Greensleeves. Instead, I'll continue trying to track down the ENTIRE Greensleeves 12 inch output up until 1985!
