The Skatalites "Legendary Skatalites / African Roots" CD question

Hi - I just got the Grover CD edition of this album and was a bit disappointed that it's mastered from a record (the additional 60's songs are especially noisy). I was wondering if anyone knew if there's a CD edition from tapes - I'm assuming there isn't (the Moonska edition has the same track listing with the dubs and everything, so I'm assuming it's the same source) but thought I'd ask anyway.

Also, isn't "Candle Light Dub" one of the weirdest dubs ever? There's almost no bass! If I listen to it by itself, it seems to make more sense, and I kind of like it, but in with the rest of the album it sounds pretty bizarre.

Hi Pangalino,

I do not know the ´Grover´ edition at all, but what I
know is that ´The Legendary Skatalites in Dub´
on the Motion label has a very good sound quality.
By the way: Lloyd Brevett is playing an excellent
acoustic bass! Wonderful album!

Hi gibey - I really want that one for the dub versions. I heard "Heroes of Reggae in Dub" years ago and thought it was great.

Kevin - I think it probably is; I first heard it as an LP called "Legendary Skatalites", minus the dubs and bonus tracks, and have seen two CD editions credited to Llody Brevette with the Skatalites called "African Roots". This edition credits King Tubby with mixing only the additional dubs and the one song "African Roots" - there's no mention of who mixed the other tracks, but there's an arrangement / production credit to Lloyd Brevette.

I love the album, but I do wish it sounded better. Maybe I'll listen to the dubs more when I get the Motion CD.
