Irie erveryone....

A simple question....... Do u think Kiddus I back in the early 80s was a smart man?
I mean.... I read that he turned down a money-making contract from Island Records just because he didnt want to re-write his songs..... Island thought his lyrics was to politcal.... too anti-Babylon in a manner of speaking.
So... We all know what happened.... Kiddus never released a full album.... only released a handful of singles on his on label Sheperd. And then kind of disepeared.....

Its a hard question.... InI thinks he was a hero in a kind of way... he never bowed for them big record-companies.....
But, at the same time... dollars=food on the table......

Maybe he is or he was a true believer, I think he is, is not a secret many great artist went to a record studio and they do killer tracks, killer records, and the record companys didn't pay a cent of royalties, bob marley parted ways with lee perry for some records and their royalties
Anothers artist die in poverty like homeless some with problems of alcohol and hard drugs because they do one or to good albums they take part of the royalties and became crazy...is ramdon
about your ecuation
dollars=food on table
work=food on table
farmer=food on table
drug dealer=food on table
FOR ME DOLLARS = ROOT OF THE EVIL

For having spent many hours with him, I can tell you he's as far from being an idiot as you can be... A very special and mysterious man...

Hmm... Dont get my wrong my friends...

"Idiot" was not meant in a harch way....
Well.... That sounded strange, I know....

For Pete sake! Kiddus is one of my favourites artists! Graduation in Zion is one of the best tunes ever! A-ight??

As I said... he was a hero, he never changed his lyrics, never changed his songs to adjust to those damn reords-selling charts!
But.... at the same time I feel sorry for him. He deserved the same attention as Bob Marley and the others who toured the world! A-ight?
Well, now Im going to listen to Give I strenght.. another great song from Kiddus...
Peace!

I didn't know Island asked him to re-write his lyrics, but I think that he was right to don't change that.
it would have lost all his interest, all his genuineness...
I read a Kiddus I's interview and he's an intelligent man, it's wonderful to don't change nothing in his attitude just for money. his lyrics are stronger thant the money's power.
for me, it's a proof that he still a great artist.

Howdy anbessa,

there´s a certain inconsistency concerning Kiddus-I´s age.
The liner notes from ´Graduation in Zion´ state 1944 as Frank´s birthdate, whereas in David Katz ´People funny Boy´ it is 1954. What´s correct?

That´s what I thought about too. But c´mon, TEN years difference. I tend to guess he was more likely 24...Maybe both Reggae historians are quite wrong and allow us to choose the golden middle!
