greetings,.
i wanna ask a question.
what ya all think about younger artists voicing an old rhythm..?
like sizzla on old version of king selassie "one love"
or nearly every bitty mclean production
but aside of that who else voice old stuff?
i know of alpheus voicing studio 1 - there was a good album in one shop i went, i never buy and never see it again,
yami bolo sameway, nuff tunes but i never see no album
....
what else?

What else? It would be more efficient to ask: Do you know any reggae artist growing dreadlocks?
If you like Alpheus, you should definitely check out some Glen Washington's album. And if you like Sizzla's Waterhouse Redemption, then Natural Black's Jah Guide would be natural choice.

one of the best one's in my opinion is the LP yami bolo- healing of all nation. this double LP is linval thompson's come back production, incorporating all the original riddims he used from the 80's with the help of roots radics as the seesion band. with the original king tubby mix. the riddims were never touched as in remixing or enhanced in any way. linval thompson used the original recording used on all his hits back in the 80s. which makes this unique. alot a the stuff you hear now are different version of the original riddim, using digital riddims. the one on the "healing of all nations" LP are real riddims, real instruments, no digi sound whatsoever.

@marvin,
iight, i think you didnt get what i am saying.
i am not talking about relicks or rebirth i am talkin about young artists voicing old versions. yea i forget the 2 album glen washington did for coxsone dodd but i always felt like its something special but since i ve seen alpheus i thought actually there should be more tunes like that.
and waterhouse redemption is a crappy album i dont even like one love so much i think sizzla missed a great link but still i want to know more tracks like that...graduation to zion would be such one
another sample would be daweh congo on volcano riddims like diseases & 3 blinde mice, anyone hear dat album yet? is it official?

Don Digital, still can't get it. Do you mean nowaday artists voicing exactly the same old riddim track? It's confusing, because I think, that the riddim, used on Sizzla's One Love, is not that original one. It's only very faithful reedition. The same thing with that Graduation In Zion (even Kiddus' song is re-recorded). If you like these two, then you should check out this site:
http://www.reggaefever.ch/ These guys put out some nice songs on His Imperial Majesty riddim. Rod Taylor's one is spiced with Capleton's toasting to nice effect and JrKelly's song is awesome.

ok, thought the version of sizzla is same one used by black uhuru..
and bout graduation in zion, hmm i never notice that, thought it was original still..
what we have been talking about thompson sound & yami bolo should give you the right vision of the question.
bless up

Donna V has voiced some nice tracks over Studio One riddims also. Slaves Blood being a wicked example.
