That's all so complicated for a regular guy. Anyone who wants to just pop a CD in the tray and rip it to MP3 would be better using something like iTunes, as it really is point and shoot. It also helps to archive and catalogue the tracks as generally CDs are encoded so a program like iTunes will pick up the info and fill the track artists etc info in itself. Easy easy.

I am not saying you'll get the best ever recordings (although Apple's lossless file format is about the closest to CD quality that I've ever heard) just that it is simple to use, made for people not computer or studio geeks.

Now recording vinyl, that's a whole different ball game! Here any upgrading of equipment, fiddling with formats, trying different recording applications, and generally tweaking and experimenting usually brings better and better results.

I would just use WMP, to rip the CD. Did it just a few days ago, and it has great quality, if you set the options to MP3 320KBPS. It is free and very easy.

Edit: whoops, I just saw now, that this topic is a bit old. I apologize.

No need to apologise Survival, your comment is relevant and probably helpful (although personally I think WMP is a piece of ****) :D
