TOP DECK?

In the ub40 thread I asked why top deck doesn't appear on R-A...

how come the label is not on roots archives?
if ub40, specials and madness are mentioned, it would be right to dedicate some space to this label no?

Because it is from before 1970

I know about this pre 1970 policy... but you gotta be honest and notice that prince buster's label appears on the site like most treasure isle and studio one stuff... what's the difference?

it would be nice to add at least the records from this label or their cd reissue because they contain some masterpieces you won't find anywhere else.

I'm quite sceptical when I see some poor skatalites record like rolling steady on the site's page 1 while the crucial "ska boo da ba" is completely ignored. I think that if we want to promote jamaican music we have to care more about quality... honestly the year 1970 is not that significant in the reggae history.

the transition from ska to rocksteady has been a major moment in the history of jamaican music and it happened before 1970.

it is just a blasphemy to see the specials, madness and other pirates on the RA while some crucial skatalites album is ignored on purpose.

but that's just a point of view

Taken from the about page which is not difficult to find : "If you feel you can help us in our difficult and lengthy task (corrections, scans, etc ...), don't hesitate to contact us."

So instead of complaining and begging constantly, and in some way, being a bit rude to those who run this wonderful website...

The censored1 is just right.

TO TON1 : the rude ones don't pay tribute to the Yap bros and their great productions

Don't know what are your habits, but i'm used to stay away from site where the webmasters are rude :)

Just in case you hadn't read it :
"If you feel you can help us in our difficult and lengthy task (corrections, scans, etc ...), don't hesitate to contact us."

and on the same "about page" :
"Collectors will find that some discographies are incomplete. For the time being we prefer to update the website with albums we can hear and check."

if you're not happy with it, you can run your own website and tribute to Yap Brothers and Skatalites.

This originally is a Top Deck recording.
Believe it or not, all Studio One and Treasure Isle recordings from the Skatalites are missing too !
Anyway, this is the ROOTS Archives and not the Complete Library of Jamaican Popular Music (though maybe someday it could turn into that).

you made a good point!
when I ask if it wouldn't be nice to add some important label, it is ROOTS archives... BUT...
does someone notice that it is the same forum hosting madness and specials albums? did someone insist about specials and madness being galaxies away from roots?

is it logical to put some reissue from the eighties (alligator issue) of an original top deck album without naming this label or the producers?

you seem to ignore a lot about top deck... and at least that SOME TOP DECK MATERIAL IS ACTUALLY AVAILABLE ON CD OR VINYL RE-PRESS (even a great 7 inch box set)... cheap and quality stuff... far from some crappy reissue or poor vinyl pressing

please don't act as you were the sheriff of the forum... it is annoying to read this kind of comment... nobody put a gun to your head to contribute to this thread... especially if you don't know about the yap brothers and the skatalites

You're still so narrow-minded, my poor persecuted CENSOREDone, you should stop acting like a child, pouting and provocating, i'm just telling you that if you think something is missing, it's up to you to encode it, take a capture of the cover and give it to R-A webmasters, they'll be glad to add it. If you do not, so don't complain, just make suggestion. I'm wondering if someone has ever taught you how to be polite, begins with "on ne réclame pas". But I'm certainly wasting my time as you hadn't changed and seems not to want to.

"Puisque c'est comme ça, je boude et je me logue plus" :D

By the way, Selecter, Specials and Madness appears cause they are on V/A compilations, their albums are not listed. Some of them should be as the ska they play is sometimes very similar to the originals from 60s era and also cause Rico has played with the Specials on many of their titles and at their gigs.
