i've read people funny boy, and it is a great book but hard to read sometimes due to the huge amount of dates/names/facts. it is still prolly #1 out there but i am looking to read more since it is one of my favorite topics in the world.
i was checking amazon for titles and saw "dubwise," looks like i might enjoy that one.
any others?

I was at a brethren`s house and he had this comprehensive book on jamaican music,lots of pictures and loads of stories on rasta`s and the way of life.I think it was called the encyclepedia on jamaican music or reggae or even rastafari,i can`t remember to well but you would love this book its big and full of information and wicked photo`s of many reggae musicians.Try searching for it,it is definitely the enclyclepedia of one of the three above i`m sure check it out.

Hey bro i looked up some good ones sold at amazon and reckon go into amazon.co.uk enter books then search "The virgin encyclopedia of reggae" and "Caribbean popular music:An encyclopedia of reggae" and "Culture Bass when reggae was king".Here`s three books that look really good and i reckon i`m gonna get then.

Lloyd Bradley's "Story of Jamaican Music" is very complete with its start in the days of ska through roots to dancehall. very informative and interesting. definitely check it out

Ites. If you have read People Funny Boy then Solid Foundation by the same author is definately worth a read. Also Bass Culture by LLoyd Bradley is essential although can be hard work if you are not an experienced Reggae head.

My favourite reggae book is "Bob Marley,Reggae Rebel" or something. I found this paperback in the lobby of a hotel when I was just getting into reggae and it became one of my most cherished possessions. It was written by a white author who doesnt know much about reggae and therefore written from an original, unhibited point of view. It was written in 1976, before Marley really became the icon he is known as now.

Beth Lesser's "King Jammy's" is the best book about 80's dancehall (not just jammy's) by far.

Has anyone read Michael Veal's book on dub? It is quite academic/theoretical but also has some excellent history/interviews too. I don't thinkanyone has mentioned it on this forum before (apart from me!) but would have thought it would be of great interest to the many dubheads on roots archives....
