Is Islands version of the Social Living album different to that on Blood and Fire?

I was reading up between the two and that Island`s release in the U.K 1980 had been toned down so that it could appeal to the british audiences.Apparently that American reggae fans in the U.S had been treated to a more intense version on Blood and Fire and it turns out that the U.K had been missing out on quite alot.Did anyone know about this and if there is a considerable difference between the two versions. Thanks

You may be confusing the Island album Marcus Garvey with Social Living? It's the former that was toned down for International audiences both in the US and UK.

The album you mean began life as Marcus Children in JA. It was then released in the UK as the Social Living LP on One Stop Records (not actually on Island but they seem to have held the rights).

Then in 1994 Blood & Fire released an album called Social Living internationally on CD. But despite all the descriptions of how they'd removed the pops and scratches etc. etc., they failed to point out that it was actually the Marcus Children LP they had reproduced, not Social Living.

Confused? I certainly was at the time - especially when people queued up to congratulate B&F on presenting the extended versions at last, when B&F's CD was actually shorter than the original LP.

Anyway, the two are essentially the same, just with the track order different, so here they are side by side (OK, one above the other).

SOCIAL LIVING (BAFCD004)

Marcus Children Suffer (4.38)
Come (3.52)
Social Living (4.34)
Marcus Say Jah No Dead (3.51)
Marcus Senior (5.10)
Nyah Keith (4.03)
Institution (3.30)
Mister Garvey (3.17)
Civilise Reggae (4.03)

SOCIAL LIVING (STOP 1001)

Marcus Children Suffer (4.38)
Social Living (2.38)
Nayah Keith (4.00)
Institution (3.26)
Marcus Senior (5.05)
Civilized Reggae (5.46)
Mister Garvey (4.52)
Come (3.53)
Marcus Say Jah No Dead (3.54)

Therefore, B&F´s Social Living is de same dat Marcus´ Children LP? Same track order an same track time both?
Wat do yu know bout de tunes called "original mix" on Rare And Unreleased compilation? Some appear in extended/disco stylee version an wid different title. Maybe were released like 7" and 12" or simply all unreleased? Cos mi nah tink were ina Marcus´Children original LP.

Hey
I just got a copy of this 'rare and unrealeased' and to me it sounds extremely similar to my copy of the BAF CD (perahs the BAF sound is a bit sharper), but I don't think you could really call them different mixes...Anyway, crucial album

Of course Breda Fab but wat do yu seh bout discomixes - "We Suffer" (7:49) an "Social Living" (6:49) - included on Rare And Unreleased. Ina BAF CD nah appear dis way. Ina Marcus´ Children LP mi nuh know cos nuh hav it an dis is de question: de tunes were released ina LP, were released ina 7" or 12" or were unreleased till Rare And Unreleased CD was released?

or
Wich lenght hav tracks - same ina BAF CD?

Concerning that album, the information on Roots-Archives needs some adjustments.
