Sounds from the Burning Spear vs Creation Rebel

I wonder why 2 companies release more or less the same album in the same time.
checking both on headphones it seems to me Creation Rebel has a cleaner sound even if there's a bit of vinyl surface noise.
there's a huge speed difference between the 2 versions of new civilisation though.
anyone knows which one has the correct speed ?
on creation rebel duration time is 3:23
on sounds from the B.S. , time is 3:13

well, two companies releasing nearly the same stuff at the same time.
i assume it has something to do with mr.dodds
untimely death ..........
either he sold the rights twice (rascal)
or it's just that after his death some things
are not regulated the way they should be.
before soul jazz came into the game, heartbeat
was the exclusive studio one re-release label (aside mr.dodds own re-releases), now it seems
that soul jazz has the rights for the whole s1 catalog. i don't know which deal hearbeat had with mr. dodd, but they have released a lot of s1 albums over the years.
It could be that there are some obscurities in the contracts ?
as no company is complaining about the other it seems they can live with this situation ....

Hi Supermario,
I've been contacted by a french company not long ago, they wanted to reissue a cs dodd song inside a various artist compilation.
I couldn't tell them where to get the rights .... but not long after a woman replied me again telling me after a short investigation, soul jazz records seems to own all the studio one copy rights now.
Not sure if it's true or not. Heartbeat may still have a deal as well.

I think Heartbeat has the rights for S1 music in the US and Soul Jazz has them for the UK and Europe. That's what I heard. Of course we can get US releases here in Europe and vice versa!
I don't have either, I'll stick with my two original press LPs!
Respect
Gordon

That reminds me of an e-mail conversation with Heartbeat ca. 5 years ago. I asked what they have for future release and they said they'll *soon* release Burning Spear's Studio 1 stuff. They told it was ready for immediate release. What kept them from releasing it then is anybody's guess but I think they were kind of forced to put their version out as soon as they realized Soul Jazz was going to put their version out this year. I don't know if there'll be any legal issues in the future, hopefully not. I do believe Heartbeat only put their compilation out to do damage to Soul Jazz sales. They have had the album ready almost five years. Why now then?

Re: above
Remember...I'm only assuming things. I'm not in the position of knowing anything as an insider.
Btw, I prefer the Soul Jazz issue, not by a wide margin though.

Of course when there is competition the results of releases can be better. (That is obvious atleast in this case because both SJR and Heartbeat Burning Spear releases are excellent.)

Have you listened to the vynil of Burning Spear called Travelling. It was produced on Clock Tower Records. There are several versions of each song, and one by The Clock Tower All Stars called Good Version. Excelent album, if you do not have it I recomend purchasing it.
