ok, this is not modern dancehall reggae so i think i can pass,

this version is REAL jazz, and through my father i have a special connection to jazz which yutes maybe dont overstand but its not the case, i know of another tune which is stricktly swing/jazz its Marcia Griffith - Fever (you give me..)

now i would like to know if there is much more (i hope) released like that. no matter when time is not important. i would like to make a jazz tape with reggae artist on it and give it some people. any suggestions? i think john john did have a beat which is called "im ina jazzy mood"

That Sizzla is a few years old now Don. I have it on 45 and it is the weirdest jazz take I have ever heard. But then again some would say that Sizzla can be weird in his own kinda way I guess.

Vin Gordon's Musical Bones LP has a very cool jazz feeling, wich I'm really enjoying.

Check the first albums of Ernest Ranglin (noteworthy Wranglin' on early Island label), it's a truely great jazz. As far as I know, that has not been reissued so you have to find it on mp3 unless you have hundreds of pounds to spend in an original press .
Also check the CD called Surfin'.
Rico Rodriguez and Tommy McCook have a also a jazz feeling

Pianist Monty Alexander too but I don't really know his work so I can't tell you anything about it.

Alpha Boys School has produced lots of jazzmen before the 60s and original Skatalites players come from a jazz background which cannot be denied, some of their tunes are really jazzy.

More recently and coming from US, members of the band Groundation come from a jazz school and have integrated it in their music.

i believe eric gale is a jamaican reggae artist who eventually moved to the us and did many jazz sessions with big name artists

ska was a basically very heavily jazz inspired music.

that sizzla version you put up is straight jazz for sure!

i mostly like just hard bop and free jazz and i can't say i've heard much of that style in reggae

but most people i know who are jazz fans like reggae also


also a lot of songs like tenement yard and most dj songs for example feature alot of scatting

cedric brooks "africa united" lp has some heavy jazz feel. in teresting mix of roots and jazz on several tracks

check some of the tunes on the take 5 riddim... based on dave brubeck's hit. I got some recently on the Teams label... Teams is underrated and to me is Quickly becoming the affordable version of "peckings Style" reggae

ha bout "old fashioned", no problem, the older the better, and if new must be "old alike" me no love the modern type of jazz at all, the beat in this sizzla tune really express how i feel about jazz you can even take away the vocals the track would be still tough. is this a some kind of special style/time or something? i remember in GTA 3 (pc game) there was a gangsta house on the hill and anytime you was passing up there music was playing and i could tell it was the beat from sizzla tune, it was like a one loop rpeating, i wanna know more about this style, theres almost always a piano sound as a basic groove jus like this sizzla drop.. i hear this style so many times in my life and never give nuff attention to it but now i wanna know

i like so much 'I Cover The Waterfront (PortoJam 1962)', Jazz instrumental album featuring Cecil Lloyd (piano), Lloyd Mason (bass), Roland Alphonso (tenor sax), Lowell Morris (drums), and Don Drummond (trombone). I think it's the 2nd album released by Coxsone, at Federal Recording Studio.
