dubs west asked a few weeks back about the congos 'heart of' LP. everyone that replied to his post said it was excellent, and it is, one of my favourite records ever. which got me thinking, if you were asked what 10 records are a must have in every collection what would they be?????? mine would be in no particular order:
1 bob andy- songbook
2 congos- heart of the congos
3 fred locks- black starliner
4 the gladiators- trenchtown mix up
5 gregory isaacs- extra classic
6 hugh mundell- arise
7 ijahman- haile i hymn
8 the itals- rasta philosophy
9 bunny wailer- blackheart man
10 the abyssinians- satta masagana
i.m.o. every collection should have at least some of these. top a top. big up roots archivers.

The ones I know on that list all look fine, but I'd throw these (from the same era) into the mix:
Culture - Two Sevens Clash
Burning Spear - Marcus Garvey or Social Living
Junior Murvin - Police And Thieves
I also take every opportunity to plug U-Roy's 'Jah Son Of Africa' as a must-have DJ album alongside Big Youth's earlier 'Screaming Target'. But I've grown accustomed and eventually learned to live with what seems a general view that anything U Roy did after about 1973 "was pants".

Ital Kemar-
I'm interested in your list including Arise. I own it and like it . What makes it your favorite Mundell LP over his other material?
I'd throw in the Maytals (In the Dark or Reggae Got Soul maybe), early Dennis Brown (like Wolves and Leopards), and the early Mighty Diamonds (Right Time, Deeper Roots, Stand Up..., Tell Me What's Wrong, take your pick)) for the list.

hi jason. to answer your question about the hugh mundell LP.... arise has two of my favourite mundell tracks in 'arise' and the super 'nature provides'. the album 'mundell' for me runs it close too. i like all hugh mundells records, but arise is my favourite. also G DUBBLE listed 'natural wild- prince lincoln and royal rasses', i love that record too, never saw it mentioned on here before as most people would go for 'humanity'. nice one g dubble.
