Trying to find out what year HOW COULD I LEAVE was first recorded. It's not on any of the Joe Gibbs produced albums although it's a Joe Gibbs production. Was it only available as a 7" ?

Can't help with your question but there are two CD releases (that i have not heard) with live Dennis Brown versions of the song.
"Best Of Reggae Live, Volume 2 Dennis Brown" (Innerbeat CD)
"Live In Montego Bay" (Sonic Sounds)

'How could I leave' or 'How can I leave you' Dennis Brown recorded for Joe Gibbs and was released in 1978 as a 7 ".
The original can be found on the 'Spotlight on Reggae Vol.1' Compilation. Another fine live version is included in the 'Academy-Live at Brixton' album (released 2000) which presents a real great live perfomance from october 1985.
