Gentleman performed in Amsterdam last month. Did not go myself but heard the it was pretty good. Curious what you think of this guy. The combination reggae singer and German just seems a bit odd to me.

hi taco. i'm sure a lot of people wouldnt give his music a chance, but i think he is excellent. i actually had a few 7s of his before i read he was a white german. [makes no differance to me if he's a green man from mars]
got his LP 'journey to jah' after tht and it blew me away. saw him in london last year [young lions of roots] with bushman, turbulance etc and he was top class. the london crowd really liked gentleman and he got the best responce of the nite when the whole crowd sang along to one of his big hits. check him out.

That's exactly what I thought when I heard he was German.. until I heard some of his tracks.. wicked tunes, I have now 3 of his albums here at home, "Confidence", "Journey To Jah" and his latest release "Another Intensity". These albums are all killers. I never get tired of his tunes..

It's a pity I couldn't make it to Amsterdam, but I was a bit short on my money.
Next time he'll come to Holland I'll definately go!

Just an opinion but I think he has taken a back seat to Alborosie now (in terms of a white man and Reggae) I was never mad on Gentleman or Alborosie for that matter but after hearing Rosie on Rodigans show on Sunday night I gotta give the man NUFF props. He plays all instruments on his records by himself (with the exception of brass) He pieces it together, mixes and produces it using Pro-Tools. All this on top of the vocals which are also real good. I can see him in there for the long haul.

Just an opinion of course so dont go hating on me !

Greetings,
I heard Gentleman is half Jamaican. Is that true?
Gentleman is a positive force in reggae music. A good singer with proper positive lyrics and songs. The youth of today knows his music. I think his music is a good entrance to the world of reggae music.
To me his music is comparable to the music of Morgan Herritage, Jah Cure and most of the productions coming from JA these days. I do miss the sufferer sound and the meditation in these productions.

One Love

have to agree with dadi digi. alborosie is putting out some serious records on the Forward Recording label lately, and has his own style, all good conscious lyrics and vibes too.

No he is of German descent, but he has been traveling to Jamaica regularly since he was 16.

He is horrible imo. Another boring, nu-roots singer.

He's somewhat overly positive to my personal taste and his vocal skills won't you blow away. Not that his voice is bad, it's just little bit tame. But I respect him for what he is-one of the best nu-roots singer and awesome songwriter. And unlike others, he's not overrecorded, so his material generally maintans certain quality.
