theres a very nice interview of him back in the mid-80s in one of my issues of reggae quarterly.
i'd hate to dig through them, but i do remember that he started as a dj by the name of jah everall, then later he was introduced to kojak by nicodemus. while kojack was doing some producing at king tubby, everall do three 45s for him including "engine engine number 9". apparently david rodigan heard the music while interviewing kojack on his radio show, and suggested that, as the vacls were proficient, everall should from there on be crowned "king" rather than "jah". so when the record come out, it was sung by king everall. he noticed that early in his career he was sounding too much like horace andy, he wanted more originality. so he did get some advice from michael rose, while black uhuru were having there rehersals in waterhouse. after all the practice and god advice, he started his own original voice.
everall then bagan to record for jammy about 1980, with an lp call "life hard ina yard", sung by the duo natural vibes, him and a youth named natty g. on the uk starlight label.
jammy advised everall to go solo, as a dancehall artist, so he did so and stuck with the waterhouse producers like tubby and jammy. he did do a clash lp with pad anthony for myrie and marshall. but most were all strong 45s from the mid 80s from veteran producers like tubby and jammy. during this period when he was interviewed he was still struggling to make it big in the reggae industry as well as struggling in the ghetto with his family. even during the period of all his recordings, he was very, very poor still. i believe from the last that i heard from someone who lives in waterhouse, kingston 11, that he still in fact still lives there.
hope this helped with all the info.
bless,
pisces
