mystery track

Can anyone help identify a root track from the early to mid-70s? The only information I have is that it's from 1977 or earlier - it was one of the tracks that John Lydon played during an interview with Capital Radio July 16th 1977. The copy I have is quite muffled but the chorus runs "fire fire fire... natty dread-a dread-a dread-a" and I can make out the lyrics "devil in disguise", "we make our mothers cry" and "my life is a constant misery" during the verses.

Can anyone out there can help?

Many thanks

Jason

You're talking about the makkabees and their incredibly heavy track »Nation Fiddler« with the equally heavy dub I guess.

It's their only known release for what I know. Killer!

Hi there - thanks for the info - that's fantastic. Do you know where I can get hold of the track - I've found it listed on a deleted Trojan Derrick Harriott compilation - do you know if it's been reissused anywhere else,

Thanks again

Jason

I think I've seen it on another collection some time ago ... but I can't seem to figure out where.

The 7" was reissued a couple of years ago, a bootleg. French bootleg maybe? Don't know for sure. Anyway haven't seen it around except when it turns up on eBay and goes for ridicilous money.

Personally I'd love it re-released on a 12" in a discostylee!

Let me update you. The guy who wrote the song Nation Fiddler and sang the lead vocals as part of the Makka Bees used to live in Harlesden London but his where abouts at this current time is a mystery. I remember going to his home studio and he had some wicked tracks way back then in the 1980s. Anybody know please update.

you can buy a digital recording from the original producer. can't link it here, but listed on the label/producers website.
