Greetings one and all!

Black Crucial did the album 'Mr. Vincent' with King Jammy in 1985. Check the link for more release info:

I think Black Crucial was a vocal trio from the Waterhouse area of downtown Kingston. Does anyone know more about Black Crucial? Any info is most welcome.

Yeah, got a tuuuuuffff 7" single of them called *Ginal Ship* on the I-Moose label. Early dancehall but deep roots! I would say 1980...

The only info on record is that the lead singer is named *J.Nicholas*.

I *think* I have a couple of 12 inch 45s by this group somewhere. I seem to remember them being pretty crucial stuff too. I'll try to find them.

Of course, I may be talking b*ll@cks, again...

Got the Jammy$ LP and from memory it's a nice LP. Long time I didn't spine it, but I seems to remener there are a couple of very good tunes and the others are very decents (especialy if you liked Jammy's pre Sleng Teng stuffs).

Playing the 12 now.

The A is a upbeat lovers tune with some tuneful male vocal.

I recognise the riddim but I'm hopeless with stuff like that so I've no idea what track it comes from. It sounds like early 80s. "Hold me tight, squeeze me right, tonight"

It is not the well known song "Tonight" by Keith and Tex.

There's nice horns dubbed onto it, some nice organ and piano work, a fat, driving bass line and some synth drums. It moves at a rocking, jaunty pace. It goes into dub at the end of track one.

It reminds me somewhat of Cultural Roots.

The ebay listing I pointed you to above has a sound clip on it. So check it out.

B side is a different track. Another scorching driving lovers tune. Again, I recognise the riddim but I don't think I have ever been able to name a riddim in my life.

More harmonies on this song. He sings about "got to find a quiet place" "Man next door with a radio and he plays it all night - there's a couple in the apartment above my head, who do nothing but fuss and fight all night - I can't get no sleep in this noisy room - I gotta move, gotta move - I gotta find me, find me, a quiet place".

Again horns, heavy bass and a real uptempo 'jumpy' reggae feel that is so wonderfully typical of the early 80s sound.

It goes into a great dub at the end of the track. With some great drum and bass sections and some lovely lead guitar sounds.

I have no idea who might have produced or mixed this but I found it in my mix box for my next DJ session so you better believe it is a good record.

Your ebay-link didn't show, but I know what record you are telling us about. It has 'Tonight' by Black Crucial on one side and 'Quiet Place' aka 'Johnny Dollar' by the Rolands on the other. Backed by Sly & Robbie in all their brightness and produced by Tanka (same as the label), real name Lowell Hill (see The Rolands album).

anyone have samples of the jammy album? goes cheap on ebay but i want to know what it sounds like
