Bob sings "...don´t treat me like a puppet on a string / caus I like to do my thing..."

What does this puppet thing mean..?...

well a puppet on a string is a figure who has no power to do anything without being controlled by someone else, so i imagine bob is saying that he is not to be controlled or thought of as one who is incapable of doing their own will.
