It just woke me up the whole house shook i thought it was going to fall down.All the wild life did their danger calls two seconds before it hit.
It was 4.7 on the rictor scale news coming in all the time from manchester, birmingham and most of middle england.hope theres no after shook.the whole ground moved and rumbled.
Peace update the epicentre was 30 miles south of Kingston-Upon-Hull. And were still shaking and not knowing what it was, . its an earthquake was my first thought,what in england.

Relax guys. Note where the epicentre was: Very near Lincoln.

It was 5.3 on the scale.

It wasn't an earthquake it was me showing off my hi-fi to my son by playing Scientists 'dematerialise'

Joking apart, it did show who is in charge here, and it isn't man or Government, it is God.

The whole house, which is a very solid three story Victorian structure wobbled and shook violently. But what was most weird was the noise. It was surreal. Stuff crashed down off the shelves in Laura's studio. The birds were flying around (day birds that you never see at night) the ducks in the park were making a huge fuss. People were in the streets in their night clothes. Car alarms were wailing.

Funnily enough, this comes directly after an eclipse of the moon, the red moon. This was always considered a very bad omen by the old time people. And Lincoln cathedral was destroyed by Earthquake in the 12century, right after a similar eclipse! Say what!

5.3 actually. And it feels pretty impressive when the biggest earth shake you've ever experienced previously was at a sound system!

But just plate tectonics? Who do you think put the plates there kukuman?

That was a lot bigger than the one a few years ago in Birmingham and went over a bigger area, .The epicentre was Market Rasen North East lincolnshire and im in Norwich, Norfolk. It was like a freight train passing through.The thing is we dont expect earthquake in the uk.The wildlife is the great warning with animal intstints that humans have forgottern about.For us in the east of england midlands and up to yorkshire we felt it. I spoke to someone in London and they didnt get nothing down there.The biggest earthquake to hit britain was 1931 100km off the east coast of england in the Dodger Bank,North Sea near Great Yarmouth 6.1.

Was that Jah Shaka playing at Wembley stadium with 1000 bass bin scoops....

It was 10 km down in the earth.I am on the edge of a fault line and people living 500 yards south didnt feel a thing.I was hit like the buffers with the full force of the 5.3 part of the chimney stack came down and roof tiles but landed in the garden luckly.Then the earthquake (freight train) bounced back off the fault line a double shock wave that lasted for 15 seconds

EARTHQUAKE WAVES

Earthquake waves travel at a very high speed - about 7km a second (about 25,000km per hour).
When an earthquake occurs,vast quantities of energy stored in the rock structures are released in a very short time. The actual point at which the release occurs is known as the focus. The epicentre is the point on the surface immediately above the focus. The focus may be close to the surface or many 10s of kilometres down.

Some of the energy released by an earthquake is transferred by heat, but the majority is transferred as wave energyand transmitted for long distances.Earthquake waves can be classified in three type- P or push waves, S or shake/shear waves and L or surface waves.

The characteristics of each type of wave are different-and they travel at different speeds. P waves travel with the highest speeds (25,000km per hour, 7km per second)and will reach a distant observer first, followed by the S waves travelling at about 13,000km per hour or 3.6km per second.The S waves are followed by the L waves which take the longer surface route around the earth.
