your right zasada, a good interview with josey wales. was on the mag with vybz cartel on the cover, but i dont remember prince fari being mentioned. thought it was josey wales explaining how he was shot himself a few times. dont know why they call him the colonel. probably part of the fad at the time, admiral bailey, brigadier jerry, general trees, captian barkey etc etc. dunno, maybe theres a reason, i would like to know too.

As Ital said, the Colonel nickname certainly come from the trend in those day. Many General, Captain, Admiral and so on.

Basicly, these nickname were given to (or taken by) artists to show they are very good.

There was for exemple the Ranking nickname in the 70's which seem to be related to the Dons. Basicly Ranking was a nickname used by badmen back in the days to show they had a big influence in the area they control. Similar with the Don nickname. At least it's the story has I was told.

So there was, as favourite nicknames used by artists:

Ranking, Don

from the army : General, Colonel, Brigadier, Captain, Admiral

from the royal stuff: King, Prince

And don't forget the one from familly: Daddy, Sister

These lists are far from complete. Just funny to see how you can classify these nickname and how they are always related to a kinda of authority which is respected (army, royla stuff, familly and badmen)... Alway the same idea: the artist has an authority within the field (the other artists "are below him") or within the dancehall crowd...
