Peter Broggs, the great singer, the man of "Rastafari Liveth", is sick.

Peter Broggs suffers from glaucoma since several years, he's becoming blind for he has no money to pay the treatment and has no right enter US soil.

He also suffered a stroke in 2004 which let him paralysed of his right body side, he's very slowly recovering.

Him and his partner Colleen have great difficulties to make ends meet (buy food, clothes and medicine...). Colleen lives in the US and try to go as often as she can in Jamaica, where there's only Peter's son to take care of him.

Im giving back 5% of my ebay sales to 70's artists in the need as a kind of royalty, it's not much but I've unfortunately not bought my records in the 70's... so I earn no money by selling them.

Peter is in this case, Ive just sent him 120$, it's not much but better than nothing. Unfortunately many more artists seem to live in real hard conditions. If you can link me with any artist in this case, please do. I've reached Sylford Walker last time already.

Don't get me wrong, but the internet is rife with rip offs and many of them take very clever disguises!

ebay sent me a £10 voucher yesterday so i've sent that and a bit more.

@Leggo : King Shiloh and Dub Creator have made a CD with him so I guess they know what they are doing. Actually, I've no more information than what is on Peter's website and on a french website (www.jahsound.net) where the member **rastabird** is active in supporting him (he's one of the mods there, you can reach him at "rastabird (at) jahsound.net"). It's been 4 years since he suffered that stroke and I have no reason to doubt as many post on the web tend to prove this. I'm usually very careful and suspicious so I wouldn't write that if I had a doubt. I can't say I'm hundred percent sure, maybe rastabird can.

ton1 not ton!

I discussed this case a bit with ton1 in PMs and I think, that we should do something more to show our support to Peter in other than material way. How we could start? We're coming from different countries, so what about organizing dance party in the same day? Just like Live Aid? It would be nice for him to see, that people all around the world still love him.

i've seen a charity setup somewhere to help old roots artists in JA but i forget the name of the website.
I just wish i had the link to it.

How about getting his adress made available to someone so people can send clothes and medicines direct to him, alot of people who have relatives in JA get big cardboard barrels and fill them with clothes and all sorts, the postage is pretty cheap considering the size of them and i have been told that u can find agents who do these special barrels in most JA communities in the UK althought i dont have an adress for any.

Better still if there are enough people here interested in helping old artists why not get together and setup a website specifically for this, i been hoping someone would get together to do this for ages now, i can give the webspace if someone wants to design it...

I like the idea of forming a foundation to support roots artists who are in difficulty. I would be prepared to perform as a DJ and donate all the fees to such a cause. And even go further and promote an event or events for the specific purpose of helping them.

But I have one slight worry. I'd be happy to help genuine strugglers who have been short changed by producers and record labels. But I would really be happy to fund a lost artists crack habit! I'm not suggesting for a second Peter fits into this category, but we all know some artists who've had financial and health problems despite making good money because of hard drugs and alcohol.

Perhaps this roots foundation idea needs a new thread?
