Record Shops in Kingston,JA???

Post by ruff »

I went to JA recently and was surprised at just how hard it was to find a decent record store, i was expecting lots of shops selling records but found only 3 shops and these where pretty poor.
I know alot of guys in this board go over to JA to buy vinyl for there businesses, so where are the best places to by old vinyl in JA? any suggestions?

I also remember seeing a huge record store on a few documentaries i watched not so long ago, could this be sonic sounds? it looked more like a record wholesalers.

Are there any shops specilizing in old vinyl in Kingston?

My next question, whats happened to the Big Channel One sign where you walk through that door with channel one painted on it?? has it been knocked down?

I went to studio one and checked the record shop, also met King Stitt at the desk with coxsones wife. But i was expecting to see this big Channel One Sign, someone told me they knocked it down, or did i have the wrong place?? is studio one and channel one 2 different places?

The general prices on vinyl was 80p per 7", and £3 per LP for re-issues.

So where are all the old records in JA?? have most of them been bought up by collectors? can anyone reccomend a decent 2nd hand vinyl store?

Yes ruff, Channel One is on Maxfield avenue, it has nothing to do with Studio One (well, except the "One"...) It's all broken down, but the sign is still there to be seen.

Alot of the professional vinyl buyers who go to kingston has contacts which they keep very secret so dont expect anyone in here to give away their secret connection.
