I have none of the 'Prince' in my collection. I was thinking it was time i changed that. I am swaying toward Cry Tuff Dub Encounter/ Chapter 1, as i like a little Dubwise! What does anyone think? Some direction is needed please...

Bretheren,

You will not be disappointed I think for me this is one of the best dubs ever. Every single track is as good as it gets. This was my first price fari cd after that i have got hooked on price fari. Its a shame that all the good people that jamaica have produced endured a violent end. rest in peace price fari your sound roar like a lion.

Give thanks.

For me, Cry Tuff 1 is one of the best Dubs ever. Very hard yet detailed and an excellent production. Cry Tuff 2 is in a similar style but 3 and 4 are different but still well regarded.

I'd also urge you to seek out a copy of Dub To Africa. This is rare and expensive but also available on re-issue.

But to get the full force of the brilliant vocals of the Prince, you have to get a vocal album. Perhaps try the one generally regarded as his best vocal works (and which I am still trying to put back into my collection) - Under Heavy Manners.

If you like roots, and are inclined to the spiritual side of reggae music, then the superb 'Psalm Far I' is a must. This is an all-time favourite record of mine. featuring Far I chanting the Psalms in his booming voice over some great riddims.

Lastly, and again one of my personal favourites, don't overlook 'Message from The King'.

Perhaps it's no co-incidence that these vocal works are also his first three Albums?

I agree Dreadrecords, I can't think of anything he has touched that I don't like! But for me, Far I earlier is better.

I saw Prince Far I perform live in London, sometime around 1980 - 82. If my memory is correct, he was joined by the Congos and maybe Deadly Headly. But maybe my memory is defect. This was at the UCL (university college London) I think.

He took to the stage like a King, never mind a Prince. And we were like his subjects, in awe and reverence. He held the entire concert hall in rapture.

His voice and his presence were a magic spell that was put upon us all on that mystical night - and for a long time thereafter.

He was a true Rasta preacher and a real concious man - blessed by Jah with such talent and brevity.

How can someone take the life of such a man? Jealousy? I dunno. Heavy Manners indeed.

The Man is much missed.

i write in this heading with a little delay.
prince fari is one of the deejays that i respect and love the most and yet one of the most unspoken dj that come out of ja.i can't really get enough of"psalms for i""long life" and some of the few artists among whom black skin the prophet is my favourite.i have busy looking for some of his live performance for so long but only managed some years ago to come across a poor recording of his in the netherlands, backed by a band that must have been a line up of young europeans that were notup to the job for me.a pity that he died tragically.a real preacher.

try blackmans land and prince fari dubwise, both to be found cheap in virgin, and the latter's got some astonishingly hard dubs on it ..wicked and wild in a 81 style..selah
