...now i know the forum is really only interested in music up as far as bout 1985, but i feel this fella deserves a big mention. For the last maybe 15 years all i have listened to is old 70's roots and having done that to death i was forced to broaden my horizons and listen to some of the newer stuff....and thats how i came across Richie Spice.
I've heard about 15/20 of his songs and the vast majority seem to be very good. The thing that impresses me about his music, and in my opinion a must for any roots song, is the lyrics. Proper conscious lyrics that have become all too much of a rarity in most of the more modern "roots" music. He comes across as a guy who could have sold out, like so many, any gone down the dancehall route but said 'no, i'm sticking to roots'.
Anyone have any opinion on Richie Spice??

I have Better Days on 7" its a nice tune, i dont have enough of the mans music to give a full mention but from what i have heard hes decent, has that new-but-old sound about him; hard to explain.

I have all his albums and I think highly of his music. I would search all of them out. If you like him, you may also like Lutan Fyah, Ras Shiloh, Bushman, & Jah Cure.

ya, i like richie spice too, but i think his second album is the best of the pick. went to uk to see him few years ago. he was top of the bill as he was riding high with 'earth a run red, marijuana, righteous youths' etc etc, the whole 5th element crew inc. chuck fender was there, bushman, ras shiloh and the best on the night, warrior king. also check out i wayne. my favourite new roots singer. super voice unlike any other.

Lutan Fyah, Bushman, Ras Shylo, I Wayne, Jah Cure... are worth getting.
IMO, Lutan comes 1st.
