In tune with the overpriced records thread...
I thought ridiculous shipping charges needed to be addressed.
Sellers on EBAY charging $5, $8, sometimes $10 to ship an LP media mail.
I did some digging around on the USPS site and found this chart.
For $5.00 you can ship 10 pounds !!!
I encourage people to confront these sellers and I hope at some point ebay steps in to moderate as well.
Exhibit 1.5 Media Mail Rates
Weight
Not Over (pounds)
1 $2.13
2 2.47
3 2.81
4 3.15

7 4.17
8 4.51
9 4.85
10 5.19

when the uk buys records from the usa, there is no uk tax until you get up to 2kg then the uks tax man starts charging silly % just cos their running out of money for the war.anything to do with the uk you pay double bubble in everything in the uk we have to pay twice, vat, council tax, water rates, bizzness tax 40% and so it goes on and on.

its better for the uk to buy from europe as we are part of the eu.so their trying to get people to have water meters but you would still have to pay water rates on top, its all a fiddle with different names but the same thing.council tax should cover it, but you find out there is extra charges.
The shipping from europe to the uk is about 16 euros £10 GBP and there is no weight limit and no UK tax for 7"s. and a set different rate for 10" and 12" 30 euros about £20 GBP.
the uk postal service changed their system last year so its to do with an item being four sided or not, anything not four sided. is more expensive.
peace edit on spelling

Seems a bit expensive.
So even 1 LP...UK to UK...is 10 GBP?

it works different for ebay uk to uk on ebay for 1 LP is between 3 GBP to 3.50 GBP. if i bought an LP from a reggae set price site it would be better getting more records to make the shipping worth it.its funny that a uk release tune is cheaper to buy and ship from europe back to the UK than uk to uk.Also the ebay shipping rates include packagine so you dont know the real rate until you get the record with the price of the stamp on it so the actuall shipping is cheaper than the above rates P&P.
The P&P from the USA ebay to the UK is about $13 USD £7 GBP. for 1 LP or 12".
peace added info.

thanks for bringing up the topic because I was wondering about the prices, I too, have been noticing most sellers over charging the seller...Sometimes shipping is worth more than the LP. Ebay should do something (yea right)

Thats the thing with ebay. ive had a record that the seller lost money and spent more on postage than i paid for P&P.i think ebay should have set rates complying with the mail services (whatever service that may be usps, royal mail, ect) if a seller is selling a lot each week then they have some deal with the postal service which makes it cheaper for them.
